Don't the Scubapro computers with heart rate monitor adjust the NDL based on the perceived exertion?

Maybe. Maybe not. Top secret. Marketing says yes. I’d like to see the algorithmic evidence. Apparently skin temp is factored in too. Maybe not. Proprietary stuff.

You haven't had one of those heart rate monitors that doesn't work?? Lucky you :)

The Scubapro says it factors heart rate in, didn't know about body temp but makes sense with what they are trying to do. How much is the factor is a SWAG. You can turn that setting on and off though.
 
That is cool and is an advantage they have over Shearwater computers if it is true.

This article mentions exercise level as a factor which can affect ongassing:

So..

A) You have to wear a heart rate monitor under your wet/dry suit
B) The RGBM model they use is then modified, somehow, depending on the heart rate.
C) How is the algorithm modified?
D) Has there been any research validating the amount of modification?
E) You can no longer plan your deco time in advance as it is modified on the fly somehow depending on your heart rate.

Advantage?
Or marketing fluff?
 
Seems one could test whether the NDL varies with heart rate, if one had two identical Scubapro computers. Put one on each wrist, turn the function off on one, and do a dive with some hard finning or whatever, then compare remaining NDL from each. Whether the adjusted number bears any relationship to reality would be harder to test, of course.

I have no doubt that they may implement some sort of code that would change the NDL based on heart rate. However, considering the....fluidity of decompression, this sounds like they're measuring with a single particle detector, marking their line with the un-gassed remnants of a can of krylon marking paint, and then turning an ADHD beaver sans Adderall loose on it.

It doesn't matter if you have the ability to fill a 5 gallon with a highly precise number of Dimetapp cup fulls, or you use the garden hose, a full bucket is a full bucket, and the precision required is irrelevant.

Is more accurate (if it even is accurate) important enough to step down in other features compared to the competition? Well, when people get bent well within the NDL's, and people blow of 20 minutes of deco with no ill effects, it doesn't really seem like it.

Yes bet there isn't really enough science behind it (not that what we are doing now is pure science.....)
