Thrust and speed should be the same as the P1 since it has the same motor/prop/shroud, maybe a touch lower due to the smaller battery packs.

@Dive Right In Scuba hosted a Live Chat with Sierra from Dive-X a little while back about the Piranha scooters. I was on that chat and specifically asked about the biggest size of battery pack it would accommodate. I *thought* that she said that it would take the 9, but not the 12. But, looking at their P1 page and the specs, etc., I could be totally misremembering that.

If it really takes a max of 5 and if you really can use 2 x 12s in the BlackTip, that would be pretty sweet.

Ordered 2, was looking for a long time in the 150-200+ minute burn range, but with 4 12aH batteries, 2 of these are more cost effective than the above DPVs, and this gets me a completely redundant unit on those dives..

Its actually pretty rad. By chaining together small, internationally recognized, commonly available batteries (think Li Powertool batts), Dive Xtras kills two birds with no stones:

a) They're not in the batt business, nor in the batt partnership business (think RabbitTool, DSS, etc)

b) They address the money demo: Traveling Divers

You can take these tiny powertool batts on a plane. Never underestimate the power of the only real money demo in diving... traveling divers.

And these batts are supported by billion dollar global enterprises (Dewalt, etc.)... so you can get them anywhere, they're supported by the manufacture, accessorized (chargers) by the manufacturer, warrantied by the manufacturer, etc.... Dive Xtras has saved a ton of cash and resources kicking the power and support of power over to established entities.

Its quite brilliant.

And, I assure you, quite serious.

It also makes lithium battery technology available to a wider audience. I live on an island--shipping a large lithium scooter battery to me is difficult and very expensive due to the hazmat categorization of the large lithium cells. With something like this, I can order the scooter and pick up the common drill batteries at the local hardware store. I know I'm not their target audience, as shipping scooter batteries isn't a concern if you live somewhere that can get ground deliveries (CONUS, Europe, etc.), but it's a benefit to me.

This also means if I have a battery go bad, I can replace it locally instead of shipping the whole thing back to a specialist manufacturer.

Only positives in my mind.
