I was on a LOB in Belize several years ago, and one person in our group had what he called a "Tropical Dry Suit" that he wore on the night dives. While we all got out & found the evening air chilly, he got out and was as dry and as warm as if he had not even gone diving. The first few nights, we were pretty brutal teasing him about being a wimp, but by Wednesday or Thursday, it was obvious that he was the smart one in the group.

I was thinking of taking a wet suit for backup in case of a torn seal, but was hoping not to use it.
You could also have your suit retrofitted with DUI ZIP seals or aftermarket silicon seals and have the capability of replacing a torn seal in a few minutes. I had Dive Right In Scuba do mine and was happy with their work.

Drysuit in Socorro? Isn’t it an overkill? I grew up in Indonesia so I definitely am not cold weather person. However, I wore 5mm full wetsuit with hood while diving in Socorro in December. It was fine. See my trip report here: Socorro 22-30 December, 2018 Trip Report

I'm sure you can find somewhere to hang a dry suit on a liveaboard.
I was there last June and the water temp was 69-72F. Diving involves a lot of hanging out... waiting for something big to swim by. I was chilly.
Warm is good.

It does have DUI zipseals, I should order a spare neck and wrists...

it's more about comfort, and not being constantly wet, than warmth.

and thanks for the link, I'll read it now
