Six trips and I have yet to do a boat dive. Lunch takes priority.

I noticed a gentleman from Germany, on this thread, so please keep me honest. I hate when waiters take some ones plate at my table, before we are “all” done eating. In Germany, this is poor service - They do not clear the table until everyone has finished eating the course. Much more civil, especially for slower eaters not feeling rushed! Different countries, different cultures. Adapt or go home.

@jeffsky29 that one is a pet peeve of my wife who is from another European country. It’s not just Germany where it’s considered improper. That one doesn’t bother me so much. I guess I had never seen otherwise until I started traveling.

OK, you have convinced me! Gonna loosen up and try "Island Time" in my waiting room. If anyone complains, I'll explain that it's a cultural thing...

:D
You mean you don't already? A few years back I lost a disagreement with my pack mule at a trail head after a nice ride out of the wilderness on a sunny day. He kicked me in the face. I had a broken nose, lacerations, and went night night for few seconds. Wife transported me to the local ER. It was Sunday, the waiting area was empty. After the paperwork I had to wait 15 minutes to get in an exam room. While in the room I could hear my soon to be treating physicians regaling the staff with a story about a play he'd seen in Portland. I took the time to clean the blood from my face, mustache, and beard in the sink. Once the story wound to an end he entered the room.

Too be honest I was a bit peeved. That was tempered by the fact that I didn't get killed in front of my wife that day.

Inshallah.

Waiting for a beer isn't the same thing. :)

I am not an American apologist. I hear people gripe that we are fat, loud, entitled, egocentric, blah blah blah. I am just an average vacationer. I understand the lack of prep stations, grills, ovens, etc. I know that the odds of everybody's food arriving at the same time is a slim and an unreasonable expectation. What I can't stand is when our food arrives and we have yet to receive our drinks, napkins or utensils, waiting an additional 15 minutes for these items while our food gets cold. Cozumel wins hands down for customer service. Cayman Brac was actually quite efficient(disclaimer: we only ate at 3 restaurants). Bonaire and Curacao present a few more hiccups, but overall, I have had positive experiences with the exception of one place in Bonaire when we left after sitting for a good 20 minutes with no service.
It is interesting to read about people's opinion and perceptions regarding us American's. Sure there are some obnoxious ones, but when it comes time to pay up and tip; you better believe that they count on the American's to reward their service.

Oh, you DEFINITELY want to wait when you go to an ER. Trust me. The last thing that you want is for the ER doc to drop everything and attend to you. That's a really bad sign.

I would agree with you....at dinner. But at lunch I may be trying to get to an afternoon boat dive.
Key word here is "may".

Should the customer be interested they can ask for the check with the food, the waiter does not need to presume that everyone is in a rush and wants their check right away.

That happened when I arrived at Harborview in Seattle by helicopter. Arrival in personal vehicle doesn't compare.

This doesn't work well at the Buddy Dive pool bar; occasionally it works, but not routinely. You have to ask for it again after a while, and preferably after you are finished. I was looking for a way to change the game.

The Beach at Windsock had slow service. It seemed like that was due to Island Time too. Then I paid attention to the kitchen facilities.

Ended up sitting next to the resort manager Charles at the bar and found out the construction in the vacant lot we used to park in next door is the new kitchen and bar being built. Things should be more efficient after that. Oh, and sitting next to Charles for some reason sped up the drink service a bit. :)
