I might be old fashion, but just go to your dive shop, show them the computer, and that's it, problem solved.
No?

Your first response was as if you were defending the seller for keeping costs down because I somehow bought something really cheap and they deserve to keep costs down to make some kind of profit?

I paid almost 10x the cost of the parts plus almost 2.5x in shipping. Shipping charge was specifically $2.50. Shipping was one postage stamp, which amounts to about $0.50 currently. Why shouldn't I expect better /packing/ so that the o-ring doesn't get mangled in transit?

This post was meant to be informative, anyway. I wanted to show what I received and how it was packaged and shipped.

You paid shipping and "handling".....the seller had to process your order, had to drive to the post office, possibly stand in line, purchase the postage, perhaps if he did not have an envelope on hand he would need to drive to a store and purchase some. All those expenses that he incurs or might incur are transferred to you as the seller. It is his capital that he invested in purchasing the o-rings and batteries to have on-hand to ship to you on demand. It was his time and effort to figure out what size and durometer o-ring to purchase...while it may be considered excessive in price for a battery and o-ring there was nothing stopping you from figuring this out on your own by measuring the old o-ringm but that would require a tool (a vernier caliper for example) and the knowledge of how to use it. A vernier caliper typically costs between $10 and $100+ depending on the quality/precision.

If taking your computer to a dive shop would have cost you more than you spent on the battery and o-ring kit from the ebay seller then you saved money.

You seem upset that you didn't receive the battery and o-ring in flashy packaging, and have made up a bs rationale that you expected it to be packaged better to reduce the chance of the o-ring getting mangled in shipping...but that did not happen. You come across as if you were cheated....but the only person that cheated you is YOU....you relied on someone else to do the leg work for you and they charged you for that convenience, it is only after you have the product that you realized that you could have figured all this out on your own. That is not the seller's fault, that is yours.

Good luck with your battery and o-ring and happy diving.

Wowsers.

First, the postal office will pickup from businesses and personal addresses. I hope you've noticed that. Next, the measurement has to only be done once, if at all, as perhaps the information can be garnered somewhere else. Finally, the capital investment is buying batteries and o-rings in bulk, which people have already pointed out to be quite inexpensive. It's not like they're stocking cars.

I wasn't complaining that the pricing was unfair. If anything, I took the advice of the people who said just to buy on eBay and not hassle with figuring out the o-ring size. My concern was that the o-ring could have been potentially mangled (at worse) or unduly stressed, as I have seen that the postal system uses automated machines to sort the mail. A standard envelope was used. No extra support was used to protect the o-ring.

You're stretching it that I'm expecting fancy packaging. It seems like you just posted to argue.

Doesn't matter whether the seller measured it once or a hundred million times, and it doesn't matter that the postal system may be able to pick up from the seller's place of work or residence. And it doesn't matter that the seller could possibly source batteries and o-rings on the cheap. You contracted/paid for convenience....the convenience of not having to figure it out on your own. You got that.

In the end it is hard to comprehend what you are truly upset about, especially considering that you state you are not complaining that the pricing was unfair.

You are stretching it that the precious o-ring was in jeopardy of damage during shipping. I would be more concerned of the battery being damaged than the o-ring. But if damage was an issue the seller would probably have complaints and make changes to the packaging....the fact that you received your o-ring and batter without damage is perhaps a sign that the packaging is not an issue for the seller.

Your original post embodies a complaint of some sort...as if you are airing a grievance against the seller, "Battastic". It is unclear what you have to be upset about, except that you found that you paid a lot for relatively inexpensive parts and shipping. Before you made the purchase you obviously put a higher value on the parts/service than the value you consider it now, that is called buyer's remorse.

You can raise the concern all you want about the packaging, but seems that it was not an issue. Perhaps the better outlet would be for you to send the seller a note recommending he package things differently in the future. Perhaps he will consider it, perhaps not.

I didn't post because I was upset with the seller, nor the price, nor the product received. Read what I wrote again. I said the o-ring was fine. I couldn't tell the difference. I said I was "a little nervous" about the packing but concluded that it was *fine*.

Subsequent responses questioned why I was concerned over the packing and why I paid so much for something so cheap. I responded that I was fine with the price and my only concern was with the packing, which you admit is sketchy, since you point out that the battery could be damaged.

I wrote that the post was mean to be informative, not a complaint. See post #7.

It seems like you just jumped in, either not having read everything, or just assumed that all posts about sellers are some kind of complaint. Again, maybe you just posted to argue, because your arguments are specious.

As per links @runsongas provided, I went down to my local Ace/Cole Hardware and paid $0.79 + tax for Danco #26 o-ring. Looks identical...

the question needs to be asked, why now? if you were going to bother, it should've been before you ordered the kit off ebay

This thread was meant to be informative. What I got from Battastic was from one of two sellers on eBay selling bare bones replacement kits with battery and o-ring only. (LeisurePro sells the official kit that has battery, o-ring, and new door.) Since the o-ring from Ace/Cole was only $0.79, I bought it to compare in-hand and for completeness of this thread.

Ultimately, I'm selling off my Giotto's anyway, so it's really a research project borne out of replacing the battery in one of them and I thought the info would be useful for the community.

My next project is to look up o-rings for Sherwood Amphos and Vision.
