It is 01 Dec 2019 at 18h00....Any other SB memebers stuck at the Malta airport due to delayed or cancelled flights?

Rather be stuck in Malta than say Detroit! Embrace it.

Round trip from Belgium to Malta: -40 euros

Lodging with a close friend: 0 euros

Compensation from RyanAir for flight delay over 3 hours: +400 Euros

Did 40 euros include the baggage surcharge for your dive gear? (We can't all hope to win the flight delay compensation lottery.)

Drysuit diving at this time of year?

How does Malta compare with the Red Sea?

I haven't been to Malta, but my wife and I visit Belgium every December to see her family. One year we worked in a Red Sea trip, which was similarly economical from Brussels.

Unfortunately we did not dive but we will be back to. We stayed with a friend that lives less than 10min walk from DiveMed.

The water temp is 18c...more than warm enough for a 5mm wetsuit for 1 dive and plenty of sun to dry and warm it up for a second after a long SI.

Max water temp in Belgium is 19c-21c.

The red sea has warmer water and more coral but Malta has a bunch of wrecks from the pictures we saw.

Give me a shout the next time you are in Belgium....I am 40 min from Bruxelles by train.

We will be in Belgium late next week. If you refer to Brussels as Bruxelles, I suspect you live 40 mins. in the other direction. :) We spend most of our time in West Flanders.

I am 30km south of Tournai right on the french border.

Perhaps we can meet up at the Saint Sixtus abbey for a West Vlederen beer (voted best beer in the world for 2011).

PM me your contact information. St. Sixtus would be convenient for both of us, but the problem is always that someone has to drive--there is no public transportation. And when I am there, I like to sample all the beers. Maybe Kortrijk for a beer somewhere? Even Lille is easy transportation for us.

Come on, they only brew 3 beers...but with an average abv of @ 10% one can definitely get in trouble if you dont have someone to drive.

PM sent.

After a 7 hour delay, 3 hour flight, and 40 min drive we are finally safe at home.
