Underwater white balance - got an idea

I have my slate on a small retractor. I store it behind my left shoulder strap or in my waist belt. Even if it comes out, it stays close and doesn't dangle. It is very quick to pull out, extend my arm and push the single button to white balace. I have become quite adept at it.

His camera does not white balance properly anyway. None of the Sony cameras in fact white balance correctly underwater and produce unpredictable results

I wear white fins to set WB.

I use either the palm of my hand, my white fins or a patch of sand. All work well with my Canon G7Xii.
I shoot photos in RAW so no big deal if colour is off, but but manually setting WB is essential for video.
Video light / strobe for close up video / macro shots.

Yes! The WB on my G7X applies to both stills and video

I wear white fins to set WB.

White balance should not be set against white objects especially in water as this generate specular highlights that fool the camera. Sand or the palm of your hand works better.
I use a whibal card that is accurate and after testing all sorts of slate, sand, hands, fins, whatever is the one that is the most reliable
Keldan is going to come out with a new slate that I should have for testing hopefully soon I will report when I have done it

And unless your RAW is lossy for stills there is no benefit other than being able to see what the shot will look like in white balancing at time of the shot

Small slate clipped off to my waist d-ring. But better to find some light grey sand, rock or coral, and shoot that to set up WB.
