My lp hose from Atomic fell under the latest recall and I brought it into my lds for repair.
I just got a call that the hose has been replaced BUT the 1st stage pressure is about 30 psi more than allowable most likely due do flooding. So unsafe to dive.
Seeing as I’ve put almost 200 hours on it, I’m ok with servicing it but it scares me that the “valet” service from the dive op I last use was probably the cause. I imagine it was dunked without the cap on.
Kind of takes the pleasure out of full service diving

Who lets dive ops deal with your gear and who never lets it out of their site?

Hi GirlonFire,

I flat out refuse to have others rig or clean my gear (my wife's gear also). But I am anal retentive about that stuff. To the point of rinsing my first stage with fresh water before switching tanks. I rinse my regs under pressure and never dunk them unless attached to a charged pony bottle.

I had a DM (who was not my DM) come over to my station in Costa Rica and tell me that he was going to re-rig my kit the proper way. Before I could get a word in edgewise, my DM cut him off and said: "Mark is a really good diver, and he is in perfect trim. Don't touch his stuff." My DM then looked at me and said: "Don't worry, he won't be on the boat tomorrow."

That felt good.

Don't touch my sheet!

thanks

Don't touch my sheet!

I've never understood that situation... someone else presuming to understand how I rig my stuff, and someone else futzing with my life support. Someone escorting me through the dive site like some full-service tour guide with a uniform and a little flag at Disneyland. "dealing with my gear" is my responsibility alone.

Never gonna happen. Full service means getting me to the dive site, giving a thorough briefing (with compass points, thank you very much), kicking me off the deck with a fat fill, telling me when to be back, and then getting out of the way so I can dive.

And snacks. Post dive snacks.

That's all the full service I ever need.

Don't touch my sheet. :)

I set up my own kit and rinse and clean my own gear after a day's diving, that way I know it's done correctly.

I don't even let hotel valet drivers here in my neck of the woods park my car.

GOF...

You've started a firestorm...based on two assumptions...''most likely due to...and...''probably the cause''...could have been you...could be your LDS is looking to put service money in the till...if you didn't see the ''high'' IP reading on your first stage...you don't know for sure...

Do yourself a favour...and purchase a small/portable/inexpensive IP gauge...and check your IP regularly...30 PSI...over what the Manufacturer recommends is a lot...to a point...it would likely cause most second stage regulators to ''free flow''...

That's like saying it should be 150 IP...and it's 180 IP...I don't know of any first stage reg that would have that large of an IP adjustment range...There are not enough threads on the adjustment cap to put that kind of pressure on the spring...

I don't believe you're getting correct information from your LDS...

I had always assumed that it was some cynical method of ensuring a bigger tip; and often ran into the same thing; and crew were often surprised that you didn't care for their ham-handed "concierge" services. Having serviced gear, years ago, that had been poorly handled while on trips, in like manner, and roughly dealt with by others, is the best form of aversion therapy.

I did go to that dark place and thought it could be a scam but my lds is pretty good and I have a trip coming up so was stuck.
I will buy a gauge though. How often should one check the ip?
