Atomic Aquatics Mask Options

Once I finally found a mask that fit and didn't leak, I bought 2 (atomic frameless). At the time they were one of the most expensive on the market but since they were the only ones that didnt leak I got a second for a backup which rides in my drysuit pocket.

I vote for the mask that fits you best.

Hollis M1. But you really shouldn't take advice here. Go to your LDS, try on a bunch (with reg in your mouth) and then decide. You might come to the conclusion that the $24 Blue Reef is a better fit than the $200 Venom / Vyper whatever its called.

After a few years of dealing with leaky masks, I bought several from different brands on Amazon/Leisure Pro and tried them out for leakage/fit with my scuba gear on in my brother’s pool (has a 10 foot end). I returned the ones that leaked.

If you have access to a pool, it’s a great way to find a good mask for your face. At least for me, the other above water methods proved not to be very reliable at predicting leakage underwater.

Make sure you also try squeezing the nose pocket to equalize as I found several masks were leaking when equalizing, whereas others (like the Tusa) did not!

really off topic to the original question but a few of my masks clockwise from top left Tusa freedom, great mask for warm water but 7 out of 10 dives in cold water it leaks, no idea why next atomic frameless a really excellent mask, next the new Zeagle scope, so far very happy with it and last the Tusa paragon I really like this and I may go so far to say if there is a mask that’s worth $200 this may be it.

For me masks are sort of disposable, just to easy to lose or damage.

I have been diving for over 45 years and I never had issues with my masks at all except for torn mask strap. My current mask is a Scubapro Frameless that I have had since circa 2001. I got a new mask few weeks ago, the Gorilla Frameless, just to try it and compare the fit with the regular Frameless. No issue whatsoever with the 18 year old Frameless however. Masks aren't disposable for me, they get used and they do last forever since I always buy top quality brands and models.

Lucky, 48 years for me and plenty of masks lost or damaged, I have a few SP frameless out in the shop, probably my most often lost mask, maybe you should buy a more expensive mask and see how your luck holds

I suggest the Atomic frameless because it has a fantastic field of view, clear glass and folds tight. I am not convinced that coatings are needed, in fact whatever in life has coatings soon has scratches that annoy more than anything else.

Particularly for a backup mask, being frameless is ideal.

I have the first and second generation Atomic frameless as a backup and main respectively, the difference being a slight change in the glass shape and the newer version having a softer silicone in the sealing area. Both work a treat.

The area under the nose pocket is quite thin, so an under the nose shave is recommended.

My wife was so ugly we used to say her face was mask-friendly.

Hmm, maybe if Rodney Dangerfield delivered it.....
