Planning a trip tp Palau soon. Curious as to anyone's thoughts on the following LOB:

-Palau Aggressor II
-Rock Island Aggressor
-Ocean Hunter 3
-Black Pearl (brand new) from 7Liveaboard

i've been on both aggressors and would say they are run well. the rooms are not as large or comfortable as the odyssey but above average in size and comfort (think holiday inn). the food is outstanding if you get chef andy.

ask to hit sandy paradise instead of german channel for mantas. the site is just more interesting, although german channel is very good for a night dive.

i do wish they would hit blue corner/peleliu cut in the later afternoon sometimes though. they avoid the late morning and early afternoon because of the day boats, but diving it always in the early morning doesn't always mean the best dive.

Someone can correct me, but unless there was a boat change the Palau aggressor II and the Rock Islands aggressor are sister ships I believe (same length, layout and now operator ). Rock Islands was once called Tropic Dancer and run by another company but came into Aggressor fleet around 10 years ago as I recall.

I will be on Aggressor II in about 3 months , so feel free to ping me in mid-May if you haven’t made your decision. I have been on both boats multiple times but it has been several years since I have been out that way. Obviously I was happy with both Aggressors in terms of layout and crew or I wouldn’t be going back

going with 7liveaboard (black pearl), 40% off, new boat, looks like a seasoned crew. we'll see, i'll add a trip report

is there a crew listing on their site? i didn't see one

10 bucks a tank for nitrox and no soda/juice/beer/wine included is a bummer compared to aggressor. the cabin photos look nice though.

I also looked around their website and was literally wondering exactly the same things about the crew and some of the incrementals. Was trying to see if I recognized any of crew but didn’t see much info.

Love it...28 person brand new yacht. Only taking four on our trip. I’ll take it!

Did you end up going already? Very interested in your experience.
If he did make the trip , he got in just barely under the wire. Palau has been shut for months I believe. Can’t find anything about them opening up again. About only country in world with no COVID last I heard

IMHO doing a liveaboard in a foreign destination insulates one from the local culture. When filming for my dive travel videos, I always like including footage of the place and the people. With that said, I usually choose land-based operators. While in Palau I came across a really good one, Palau Dive Adventures (We offer small, flexible flawlessly organized dive adventures in Palau!). They gave great service and took us to places the liveaboards didn't go to. Yes, that does require longer boat rides each day, but the scenery is fantastic.
