Just a little post where I show my attempt to implement an idea I found on Brian's YouTube channel, @Lake Hickory Scuba :
The main two reasons I wanted to try are:
Bottom line, the bulk plus the weight, the fact that I’m going to travel frequently to Nice for short trips and have the opportunity to dive there were enough reasons for me to try to find a way.
Being able to save the money for a checked in luggage AND still bring my gear to dive was worth the hassle.
I remembered that video, rewatched it and decided to give it a go. My early hope is to be able to carry my full bpw and my regs in my personal item. A bit optimistic but that’s my nature and I believe that worst case I could get my full bpw and my dsmb in my personal item which would already be a big win.
So I went to the shop and found a good bag on sale.. 19.9€ if i mess up it won’t hurt me too much!
As a side note I really like the front straps for holding the fins
I bought the grommets and I installed them with a hammer
I’m overall pretty happy with the Result:
I managed to put the full wing and reg. I’m very excited!
I’m flying to Nice on Friday! I’ll see how it goes but I’m confident!

- first and foremost the bulk... being a newbie diving in cold water with thick neoprene my wing is pretty big (37#) and once I put the wing, the plate/harness my boots and my regs my carry on was full... which, when I travel to the Mediterranean see for a week end is pretty inconvenient.
- Second, the weight. While my plate is aluminum I end up with the buckle, D-ring, pockets and wing around 4kg
