you missed the part about them only being rated for 9.8A discharge.

Yup..I thought I mentioned in my post that I didn't think 9.8A would be nearly enough continous amps however it's certainly possible that they release a new cell with higher discharge in the future.

I've rebuild 18650 powertool packs before (very carefully) and agree you can definitely burn your house and garage down if you're not careful :)
 
OK. Someone please post a link to a discounted scooter source. 10% is fine.
They will be useful for lake divers who could scoot to the other side of the lake and do exploration there.

I did see that an LA dive shop apparently had a sale on them. Even if there aren't sales, the thing to do is to look for free shipping, which I got at Backscatter, although I don't know whether they still have that.
 
I am running the DeWalt 60V/20V 12AH batteries.
I did an 80min dive and still had 2 bars on the batteries left running at 3 most of the time.
So if doing normal 6omin dive, I could get in 2x dives at least.
That's more than enough for a day in chilly Monterey,

I figure, I might as well go big on the batteries.

If on the fence, just go for it and get the 12AH batteries.
 
Bought mine yesterday from Deep6.

I’ll pick it up in the UAE in April along with a new XDeep SM rig for some training and then fly with both back to Saudi Arabia.

Up next for me - sourcing a shipping case and batteries. Pretty sure I’m going with an SKB case ( SKB Cases ) along with the DeWalt 9Ah option.

Be conservative when using any of these "power remaining" bars or %ages. Lithium ion batteries have a relatively flat discharge voltage curve compared to nimh or lead acid. So its hard for any volt meter based "power status" indicator to know exactly when they will quite rapidly just cut off.

If you put a watt's up meter in line between the batteries and the motor you could read the exact number of watt hours consumed. But even that isn't perfect because the batteries are somewhat generously rated so its hard to know how much is left until you run them down to the point where the motor stutters.

Yeah, I would not want to find out the hard way 1/2 mile from the beach.

Still, it was damn cool! I'm happy with an hour run time, after that it gets cold.

In my experience, running 9 AH waitley batteries to the point the BlackTip stutters, the battery indicator on the scooter still showed 1 bar, and the battery percent indicator on the batteries still read 20%.

Unlike a Piranha running up around 75%, where you can reach the stutter point, then downshift a gear and run for a few more minutes before getting another stuffer, and again down shifting and getting another few minutes of run time each time you downshift, the BlackTip is basically done when the battery first stutters and you get almost no additional run time by downshifting. Doing that left the percentage readings at 17% and still showed 1 bar on the scooter.
