Experience, skill, and training are all relevant to any instructor who is taking care to meet standards.

And standards allow for OC deco divers to include deco in their MOD1 training.
...
My instructor did not push me to do deco and incorporate helium into my training. I requested both. I wanted to be able to dive deeper than 100' and to be able to do some deco.
...
If my instructor deems that I have adequate buoyancy and the other necessary skills (including the proper mindset) to do CCR deco dives, what's the problem?

No problem. Do what you want. Just my opinion. I don't care about standards, I'm not a pro, I'm not bound by anything.

I think that it's a bad idea for a brand new CCR diver to do deco. I think that it was a bad idea for you to do it. Even with your awesome buoyancy skills and excellent instructor. Even though you really wanted to do it. Even though you got away with it.

You are entitled to your opinion, even if I don't agree with it.

My grandmother used to tell me, often(!), "that's why there's chocolate and vanilla." :D

pretty sure the TDI helitrox course allows deco - the air dil intro course may not

I'm TDI helitrox, it does allow deco. Prerequisites are 6 months diving CCR with 30 hours on the unit you are training on.

because?

doing a mod2 only needs 50 hours or 50 dives id be impressed if you have mastered buoyancy on a ccr with 50 hours yet the agency deems to ok and OC deco procedures allow 25 dives and id doubt an OC diver with 25 dives would be good enough

You know, you may be right.

I do think my instructor was excellent. But, even now, after 70 hours, my CCR buoyancy is FAR from awesome. Feeling like it is still not good enough is one of the things that has held me back from doing my MOD2 class yet.

That is not entirely correct. Directly from the TDI standards:

32.5 Student Prerequisites
1. Minimum age 18
2. Provide proof of 50 logged dives. If completing a unit crossover, provide proof of 10 logged CCR dives in the last 12 months.
3. Minimum certification level of TDI Advanced Nitrox Diver, Deco Procedures Diver or Helitrox diver or equivalent from agencies recognized by TDI
4. If the rebreather is a TDI approved sidemount rebreather, the student must hold the TDI Sidemount Diver certification or equivalent, provide proof of 10 logged sidemount dives, and any additional requirements the sidemount rebreather manufacturer may have.

OR

1. Minimum age 18
2. TDI Air Diluent CCR Diver certified or equivalent
3. Minimum of 30 hours and 30 dives on the CCR unit
4. Six months CCR diving experience

So, a TDI AN/DP diver can go directly into TDI Helitrox CCR, with no prior CCR experience.

IANTD has a similar provision, which is how my first CCR course allowed for deco and helium.

Awesome. I stand corrected. It's a great idea.

I think it is important to note that those are the prerequisites to START those training courses. There is no guarantee of PASSING those courses with that level of experience.
