Best bang for the buck? Waitley 9Ah batteries.

Not sure about a charger.

I lost my bang for the buck somewhere. I just went for "best". I got a pair of the DeWalt 12Ah batteries and the DeWalt 4-port charger (so I'll be ready, later, when I get 2 more of the 12Ah batteries). :)
I went for 'best' also, now can do 2 x 1 hr dives without breaking seal and changing batteries.

My only time out with the scooter so far, I was with a buddy that was using the Waitley 9Ah batteries. The end of our second dive involved me towing him back to the dock.

Then I went for a 3rd dive (another 40 minutes or so), got out, and still had 2 bars showing on my battery meter.

But, I think you CAN get 4 of those Waitley 9Ah batteries for about the same price as just 1 of the DeWalt 12s...

A pair of 9 Ah Waitley batteries will cost you $140. Three sets will still cost less ($420 versus $500) than a single set of DeWalt 12 Ah batteries.

On the dives we did, I also still had 2 bars left. However we also didn't do a trip to the far end on the first dive like the other 2 divers did. If we had, I'd have switched to my second set of 9 Ah batteries between dives.

As it was, using just one set, I still had 2 bars showing on the DPV, and 58% showing on the battery indicators when I got home. Part of it is also streamlining and efficiency in the water, part of it is economy of operation and battery management, and part of it is battery capacity - but all three parts count.

I have the batteries and charger but no scooter, and unsure when it will come. I guess they are backordered and that could mean anything at this point. I charged the batteries but I am wondering when I need to check / recharge them if they are just sitting in a drawer for 6 mos.

I did get a shipment from Dive Xtras, so they are filling their back orders, and I do have a BlackTip in stock.

We didn't go to the far end on the 1st dive, but Aaron did, and he also went us on the 2nd dive and with me on the 3rd dive, and he also still had 2 bars left.

I went for “best chance of getting through security screening at all airports” with a pair of 9 Ahr DeWalt batteries (DCB609-2) since they’re listed on a formal MSDS of various batteries of 100 Watt hours or less.

Unfortunately, the 12 Ahr batteries (DCB612), my first choice, are not listed on that MSDS. While some divers may have had success getting through airports in Mexico with their 12 Ahr batteries, that’s not where I’m headed. I’m not willing to chance losing that much money in batteries to some grouchy TSA agent or Draconian security guy in the Middle East who, once finally rustled from his usual listless stupor, will valiantly enforce the most minute detail of law to the death no matter how much documentation and common sense are applied.

I noticed on the data plate on the bottom of my DCB609s that it describes it as 3 x 60 Watt hour in transport configuration (red shipping plug).

@stuartv - does your 12 Ahr battery show anything similar on the bottom?

I have all my IATA, FAA, TSA, Delta, Saudia and DeWalt documentation ready to go.

Just need a flight.

@NothingClever

Yes, they say "Use: 240 Wh Shipping: 3 x 80 Wh"

Well, dang it all to Hades.....

I’m going to need some grief counseling for this difficult chapter of life.

COVID-19 isn’t getting me down. In fact, I feel downright plucky.

I have room for two more batteries and could take them on my domestic leg but the carrier of my international leg will only allow two.

Propped up are all relevant documents in the event I hit a snag.
