This isn’t the place to ask the question but this shows how fidgety side mount can be.

We are in lockdown sort of so I’ve been in the pool with a mirror looking at cleaning up my side mount configuration - the clip on the top of the bottle, are you unclipping it when you attach bungee?

You learn a ton by looking at things you could never see before....

im going to be using a go pro this year for teaching so the students can see their issues and correct the problems ...one of the best ideas years ago in skydiving was the wing camera to help students on exist and flying

Hi Chuck, I’m new to side mount what do you use the clip on the top of the bottle for? I just bungee in the neck to the harness. Is it just for carrying the bottles to the water
Thanks

Yes - we clip off the top of the bottle for getting in and out of the water, we don't actually attach bungee until under the water.

For entry/exit in surf I clip and bungee. The bungee keeps tanks back and behaved. (Just small 40/50 tanks here.)

I only use the bottom clip, and bungee the top. But I dive with AL80s and the bungee is stiff enough it takes the weight ok, if I was using steels I'd probably go back to using both clips.

But when I used to clip the top, I clipped and then bungeed in that order but the lanyard on the top clip was fairly loose. And when stripping down on a safety stop I removed the bungee and let the tank float on either both clips, or just one if I figured it was going to be a rush getting in the boat.

it's one of those preference things. Everything I read when I first started said to use the top clip, then in my course I was taught to just use the bungee.

Top clip for entry and exit. After that you switch to bungee and do your bubble check.

This is how I do it. Once I am in the water and begin my descent, I unclip the hard points and stow the double-enders on the rear attachment points. I do this so the darn things are not banging against the cylinders the entire dive and annoying me and the divers around me.

Thank you, I was about to ask what do you do with the boltsnap after disconnecting it.
So a grommet around the tank neck with a double-ender which you take off when not in use?
