total BS that this is being applied to the whole state just because he felt disrespected by crowds on the beach in socal
We were all disrespected by those tens of thousands of people on the beach so now nobody gets to play

The governor did not close all beaches. Monterey is open. I wish we knew if out of town divers can go. I'm in San Jose.

I was riding my bike along Huntington and Newport Beach last Saturday. There is no way there were tens of thousands there. Now I know why people believed that. The O.C. Register posted a photo that made it appear the beach was more crowded than it actually was. Other media outlets used that same photo, but the Newport Beach Police Department shot aerial photos that showed most beachgoers were far apart.

Well they report 80,000 were there, they show a lot of people in and lot out of compliance in the video and they admit the times are different by a few hours, I don’t know since I wasn’t there, what time were you in the area? I have seen beaches fill up pretty fast so time can make a big difference, overall not my call and the crackdown seems localized for now.

Most beaches in Monterey are city or county with some exceptions. Diving is permitted as far as I know at this moment, 2:38 on Thursday the 30th, however sheltering in place doesn’t work unless we all do so. Fortunate for me, not so much for people who live elsewhere. I travel to Asia for work. It gives me most of my yearly income, and I chose not to travel when this bug first showed its head back in dec. and jan. for the sole purpose of not contracting and spreading covid. I truly wish many more people had that foresight. Fast forward to this moment. I haven’t earned a cent in 7 weeks and out of work, as are most of us. Who knows how long it will be till I recover financially. If ever. Traveling spreads covid. Avoid it.
As far as enforcement in Monterey goes, I know of folks who have been gifted heavy fines for ignoring the shelter in place order and/or 6 feet apart order. Monterey County’s stance is that if you do not live in the area, you will be fined if you cannot show proof of residence when asked by the police.
It sucks, I know. This is the udder we all get to suckle from. Lame times. I wish us all the safest and best.

The announcement that the entire state's beaches would be closed was incorrect.

The Gov only closed Orange Co beaches.

However, as many point out above, the travel across counties is the thing preventing many of us from diving.

Im hoping that Monterey Co & other Cos give the OK to travel, that seems like thats the only obstacle now. I want to visit my fish friends, I bet they miss me.

OK, if anyone goes to Monterey please ask a cop or ranger to confirm diving is OK if coming from out of town. A report on conditions like water temp., vis and waves at Breakwater would be nice. We at least know not all the beaches will be closed.

Newport Beach City officials estimated the crowds at 40,000. The city police said it wasn't close to that. I don't know where the guy on the video came up with 80,000. There are no facts reported on the news any longer.

Either is a lot of people but they cover a lot of beach, I hope the powers the be can offer more guidance as we move along, divers aren’t the problem we are collateral victims.

There are so many people down there that a simple “just maintain social distance” is pretty vague especially on a nice day after weeks of being stuck at home.
