I believe they are marketing this computer to people who are not in tech diving but will dive nitrox. Furthermore, its more for the purely recreational diver who wants a safe, reliable and easy to operate computer. On that notion, they hit the bullseye. Forget it having tech features. It was not designed for that population.

Expect an AI model in a year.

Well if it's only $100 more, it'll be a contender as WAI ones tend to start at ~$900. Right now all it really has over Atmos is it's made by Shearwater. Which is not a small thing but the longer Atmos guys stay in business, the smaller it'll get.

Along with coming out with AI offering in the near future, I think a hardwired console option could be really compelling to the "average" single tank diver and really help SW become the industry standard.

It also has more Buhlmann stats like SurfGF, GF99... and the tissue loading graph, 3 gases, a bigger color screen and... Shearwater service. Atmos Mission was it, until now

Well, I happen to believe that 99 Surfing Grapefruits and heat maps are just eye candy, but that's in the eye of the beholder. On the flip side Atmos has compass and GPS and smartwatch features, I'd call that even.

To each their own regarding relative value

You think???

There are so many disadvantages to a console mounted computer. Entaglement hazard, less streamlined, prime target to get bashed by another tank, hard to use with another regset for travelling uberlight.

The advantages were usually cost (not anymore!), harder to lose, and less chance of theft.

I wouldn't bet on ever seeing that.

@Jackie Treehorn, I wouldn't exactly call a console mounted computer a entanglement hazard any more than a spg. A bolt snap and some cave line fixes that problem for good. Although I have a petrel on my wrist, and plan on finally upgrading one of these years, I can definitely see a use for a console mounted computer, especially for the target market for the peregrine. Bluetooth AI is the future- I don't think anyone is debating that. Bare minimum, it is one less hose to worry about.

For a diver that is looking to purchase his/her first computer, I think a console mounted peregrine could be the most compelling option. People tend to make gear choices similar to the equipment in which they were trained. And i'm willing to bet that most new divers are still using either a console mount or a SPG when they earn their C card.

Yeah?

I've seen those bricks drug through the reef more times than I care to count.

A little 2 inch brass/glass clipped on a hip d ring with a properly sized hose is a way better option.

Those things are for the birds man.

My wife's first dive computer? A Teric. Our best friends first? Perdix.

We gave an Atomic Cobalt 2 to a friend as a cert present... and he sold it for guess what??? A perdix.

Yeah?

I suppose I need to get with the times then and stop penny pinching.¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Or maybe make friends with someone who will gift me dive gear. If anything, a wrist comp does inspire people to look at the comp more often, which is never a bad thing. I just see a console option selling relatively well to new divers.
