this is disturbing. but as someone above already said.....not surprising.

it certainly is unfair to paint all americans with the same brush, but i can tell you that up where i live, most people have a very negative view about how parts of your country have been behaving. that is putting it mildly. quite frankly, most people here think you guys have all lot your minds. and that is not just referring to covid.

to travel to another country (especially a small island) and ignore their requests to follow some simple rules that can help them recover from all of this is just plain selfishness. ("my rights are more important")

i don't care what their personal beliefs are. my personal beliefs do not matter either. if you are not going to follow their rules then stay home.

glad you had a nice trip. lets hope when i can finally travel that i have some where to go.

Though it’s generally considered to be a childhood disorder, I would put money on it that a good amount of American adults could be classified as having oppositional defiant disorder.

“Adults with oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) display a pattern of negative, hostile, and defiant behavior that lasts at least six months and includes four (or more) of the following symptoms: Often loses temper. Often argues with family and coworkers. Actively defies or refuses to comply with rules and laws.

Childhood symptoms (pretty much match up with the behavior of a lot of adults in the U.S. these days):

What Are the Symptoms of Oppositional Defiant Disorder?
Symptoms of ODD may include:

  • Throwing repeated temper tantrums
  • Excessively arguing with adults, especially those with authority
  • Actively refusing to comply with requests and rules
  • Deliberately trying to annoy or upset others, or being easily annoyed by others
  • Blaming others for your mistakes
  • Having frequent outbursts of anger and resentment
  • Being spiteful and seeking revenge
  • Swearing or using obscene language
  • Saying mean and hateful things when upset

Interesting. Never heard of it. Maybe a new one. Certainly in pandemic-status on most if not all college campuses.

As far as the rowdy Texans go, as a Canadian, I have heard this stereotype about loud and boisterous Americans forever. Never bothered me, plenty of down-home friendly under the noise.

As long as they were keeping to themselves and not crowding in on others, seems ok to me.

We cannot give up fun and freedom completely.

I noted that Texans aa a percentage of Cozumel tourists is usually highest around August since it isn’t really hotter here than back home.
Yep, I go in August to cool off.

People from northern states and Canada are more likely head to Cozumel in winter when our weather is nice but theirs is cold.
I can see the attraction, but flying during wintertime with typical storms can be challenging. Then returning to find your house and car both buried in wet white stuff.

That's a rare treat in August. They're common in the winter around Cozumel. But then Cozumel is not far from Dominoes and Mantas in August, and then there are the turtle rescues.

86 surface to 99 ft...just returned to NYC....good to be home, but I already miss The Coz!

@Lori May-Malone curious what hotel you stayed at since you said you went with your family. The reason I ask, I am trying to decide if I'll grab a bargain flight and hotel and go next week. I've only taken 2 vacation days this year and I really want to get outta Dodge! I am thinking about going to Hotel Cozumel with my family of 4, but a little nervous about things to do other than diving for my family.

There I was talking about my winter storms concern, while I have my bags all loaded in the car to leave before sunup for my 8:23 am flight out of Lubbock, and then - I get an alert on my phone that my departure flight is canceled! I saw that big storm blow by east of us on the radar, and now it seems that it's grounded planes in DFW, including the one that was to turn around overnight for my flight.

With so few choices and options, I've had to rebook from/to Amarillo. Travel is such an adventure.
