That restoration is far and above the casual hobby level -
even down to the very rare Voit branded plastic hose clamps - a true master piece .
It is truly museum quality heirloom display.to cherished for ever.

I was discussing with a non diver friend about ownership traceability. We concluded it should be the individuals name, location (City or state or both ) and some sort of an established traceable professional identification-preferably national or state It was also noted that Harbor Freight has inexpensive engraving tool kits..

I have decided my name, California and USAF AO number or my professional license number

You ? Name. location and your professional license number

Some day -- and that some day will creep up at a rapid rate others will acquire our toys -- they will open them and see the unit was restored on a specific date in a particular location by as verifies by the traceable license number inscribed in a non visible location.
.
Fyi I recently acquired a commercially produced very rare Hawaiian Sea Horse back pack.
It was produced for only a short period of time in Honolulu therefore I suspect very few remain in diving community. I have disassembled it and am in the process of restoring it

Another piece of dive history saved from the land fill.

Keep up the fantastic work -- it is appreciated now and will be appreciated for generations in the future

Hi Sam,

Thanks for the kind words. I like the idea of marking such info inside vintage regs, but the purist in me wouldn't want to damage the chrome, paint, plastic. etc... I was thinking more along the lines of what Professional Scuba Repair (North Hollywood) used to do which was to have custom waterproof stickers made and affix them to every reg repaired. I still see those stickers today. They put them on the outside of the reg for advertising purposes, but a small custom sticker inside the reg would serve to ID the restorer without compromising the reg. Trying to find a happy medium. The professional clock makers & repairmen have been marking their work for centuries \

Recall the clock in our family room?
By opening the back up we could read its entire history
Purchased in Toronto over 100 years ago
Repaired numerous times in Canada and the US
Each time it was repaired there was an initial or name and date

It s true Al Thompson's has been gome for 25 or more years. purchased by Sports Chalet - and they too are now a company of the past
But ask your self just how long will a sticker last with repeated handling and submersion in salt water ?

Certainly no as log as engraving into plastic or metal with a cheep Harbor Freight engraving tool

Engraving will last forever and will for ever have traceability as to previous ownership.

And after Sport Chalet bought Al Thompson's business and decided they were not going to use all those old parts, I was able to buy all of it. Unfortunately The US Navy got a hold of the US Divers double hose parts before me, but the harder to find parts stayed with me...

Mike

So many good and great memories !

When US Navy-- aka BUDS eliminated the double hose from their training ,,,,
I acquired their inventory
Some items used most items new in original packaging
Boxes and Boxes - Cases and Cases -all original US Diver double hose parts.
(probably use them to help finance my grand children's college education)
@Scuba Lawyer has seen a portion of the inventory.

Mike what was the name of the very fine gentleman who ran the Sports Chalet repair facility ? All was going well and as was the habit of SC he was suddenly with out warning let go

Hope all is going well with you and yours

I would be interested in one of your NOS when you decide to sell. :)

@ Sam Miller

It's been quite a long time, hope all is well you.
That was John Gimpl who ran scuba repair. My last 2 years at Sport Chalet was spent with John at scuba repair. Those were some great days, but I know John was never happy. Always frustrated with something there. I was sure happy he sold me all the parts!
Do you remember a guy named Angelo who had a lot of parts? You introduced me to him at a scuba swap meet down in Orange County about 25 years ago.
I always wondered what happened with al his parts.
If I ever make it up the coast, I'll have to definitely stop by and have a chat.
I still have all the catalogs & paperwork you copied for me years ago with all your hand written notes on all the pages. Priceless!! As I have gotten all the actual catalogs since then, I still constantly refer back to your copies for all the notes!
