Hi all, I know this has been done to death but I hope you will be kind enough to let me know your current favorite not-to-be-missed restaurant? We'll be staying at Blue Angel and we don't mind a walk (i.e. into town) but the closer the better. I appreciate some places may not be open or may not be open late; we're generally early dinner eaters and early to bed, and we don't drink (gosh, don't we sound like so much fun..)
We've always been fed and watered on site during our previous trips so I'd be grateful for your input!
Thanks much!

Some of my faves are 'Ohana, Kinta, La Choza, La Perlita, Casa Mission, El Moro, Pancho's Backyard, and Kondesa.

BTW, 'Ohana is owned and operated by Blue Angel DM Mateo and his wife.

Really awesome pizzas at Cerveceria Punta Sur. Grab some for takeout and throw it in the fridge to reheat after diving. Yum.
And their Empenadas are to die for...great salads too!

Most of my favorite places are on the north side of the square (not an easy walk). My favorite restaurant has always been La Cocay. Soy Gardel is also good (Uruguayan food—-essentially a sidewalk cafe ). I posted on A&D 2.0 a few weeks ago—great new chef there.

Closer to you (South side of square , but still not that close to Blue Angel ) are New Especias and Azul Madera (formerly Sal de Mar). Rolandis might actually be the closest to you. It is on the water at intersection of 11(Andres Q Roo ) and Melgar. A lot of long time visitors like Sorrisi, but for no particular reason it has never been on my rotation.

Nothing wrong with any of the other recommendations listed here, but Pancho’s Backyard still hadn’t reopened as of last week I would check any of these restaurants Facebook page just to make certain they will be open on the day you are interested in going. A lot of odd schedules (weekend only , closed Wednesday, closed Sunday .....).

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are planning on walking a lot at night I would bring bug spray or buy it at Mega/Chedraui. Mosquitoes were awful at this time last year. Were not too bad last week (I am off island now ) , but if you are going to be taking 20 minute each way walks into town I would definitely have some on hand

EDIT: You might not need it , but I would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it :).

I did just that only I was too impatient to reheat so I just ate it cold when I got back to the room. Still awesome.

Travel advice... Wouldn't be the first time I heated left over pizza in the box from the night before when I didn't have a microwave in my accommodations by taking the bathroom hair dryer off the wall, cranking it on high, and shoving the snout of it into the pizza box for 10 minutes or so. Nothing like Hair Dryer Heated leftover pizza.
