If you like cafe hopping, city exploring, and commercialized villages I would recommend Bali.

If you are looking for the authentic Indonesian villages, untouched corals, small fishing village on the coastal with no restaurants or coffee shop, then I would recommend Raja Ampat.

In Raja Ampat, I would recommend to stay around a resort in Waisai, rent a scooter checkout the city (small), take a boat to Kri island and visit the local village there, take a boat to explore the crystal blue lagoon, snokel at the Samdarak Jetty (best spot in r4). There is also bird watching, and dolphin watching.

Have to nix this idea. I get cold in anything below 80 degrees (yes, I wear a full Lavacore under a full 3mm with a hood in 80-degree water). Strictly a tropical diver! I'll stick to golf in Scotland.

Now I'm not sure if Bali is the right choice. You would be there at a different time of year than I'm normally there but I've been much colder on some dives than I liked. Next time I'm there, I'll have my 5mm with me. Further, I have a Sharkskin and a 3mm bibbed hood, which I wore last year on a number of dives.

Maybe you should consider a liveaboard in Maldives?

Bali has good non-diving options as I discovered a few years back after I had an ear rupture on my third day there. I would also recommend North Sulawesi diving with Murex outside Manado or on Siladen Island for some extreme luxury and great food.

I was thinking that too but there's nowhere to wander to and that was one of the criteria.

But if one were to consider it as a liveaboard on land, then to me, certainly an excellent suggestion. I wish that I was there now!

You and me both.

The diving around Bunaken is very relaxing if you're not into macro.

Murex's base in Manado has shore diving which for me is a bonus.

Oh sorry, I was thinking of Bangka.

Perfect - we actually did book a Liveaboard in Raja Ampat, leaving from Waisai. So I think we'll plan to hang out in Waisai for a few days, maybe do a couple of dives or snorkel, and get on island time.
