So today I made the dumbest newbie mistake ever. Drove two hours to meet a new dive buddy got suited up and literally about to jump in the water to realize I forgot to pack my fins......Doh! 1-hr round trip later to local dive shop hearing Shame Shame Shame in my head the whole time......

I've gone over the side of the boat without my fins on.

been there done that

What agency did you get certified with? Cause I know agencies that have the Ecard also having a packing list and custom packing list that you can make. You can also just do a pen and paper. In all seriousness don't let it get to you, I have seen guys jump of boats without their LPI connected, with no weight pockets, and even seen someone hop into their gear try to grab their regulator and say "oh I didn't hook it up yet." We all have those moments except me....obviously

i was on a boat where my buddy did a backroll without fins or a mask. we both laughed so hard i didnt think i could get down after that. haha

Well, gotta tell my old story again. Camping in NY, drove to CT shore dive. Geared up, walked to beach and entered water. THEN realized I wasn't carrying my fins. They were on the sofa in the trailer in NY. Thought "What am I gunna do, walk on the sandy bottom the whole dive?" Fortunately the lifeguards on the public beach side lent me a pair of fins. I suppose since my fins never got into the car there was nothing left to pick up, so I figured I'm all set and walked to the shore.
I'd like to say it was a newbie flub, but that was in 2009, dive #138, and just prior to becoming a DM.........It happens, especially if you let yourself get distracted.

Just don't let it happen again!

I was checking my wife's and my luggage to Cozumel once when I realized I had left my neatly packed carry-on with all my dive gear at home. There was no time to retrieve it, so I had to rent that week. At least I had enough sense to put my prescription mask in my backpack.

Since then I've used a checklist. And done my best to avoid really early morning flights.
