Now, if you good folks had only invested in a quick adjust/disconnect harness, you could have your harness perfectly adjusted every minute of your dive. Oh wait, what am I hearing---INCOMING, and yes, I know I am going to die!

On both of my rigs I have loops at the hips so the shoulder harnesses move freely and are cinched by the waist straps. Zero finger space when suiting up usually leaves just the right amount of room to be comfortable in the water. Perhaps that is why I don't need a crotch strap.

Probably 2 or 3 fingers. I personally find that even a small closed fist is too loose, but that may be because I'm petite. That may be just fine for a larger person.

Basically, just loose enough so that you can get in and out easily, but not so loose that they slide away.

The crotch strap is the most important in keeping your rig in place and not riding up, and needs to be snug.

Well I knew this was going to create a bit of controversy but knowledge is gained by listening/learning from others. We can decide what works for us or otherwise.

This is my understanding as well... A closed fist should fit between the webbing and chest at a level somewhere between the nipple and armpit.... I think it's a common mistake for folks to adjust the harness too tight.

Agreed. Mine is a little loose.. I'm going to say and closed fist is right, with a chest strap.

Over the years, I've had to cut shoulder straps on people who were basically drowning on the surface with their regs out and arms pinned behind them.

I know when I started with a bp it was too tight. I followed all the videos for fingers and what not. But I think it'll be different for different suits. 2 fingers in a thick neo ds, full thermals, and dry suit rings was next to impossible to don and doff by myself. Now it's about a fist (I voted 4 fingers) and feels pretty good.

If I was diving warm water I'd probably have it a little tighter...so different adjustments for different exposure suits would be my real answer.

For what it's worth, everyone I've talked to tends to start too tight and then loosen it over time.

Now start a crotch strap survey!

I generally have a turned fist between my chest wall and harness. That way I have sufficient play to allow for differing configurations (drysuit, 3mm wetsuit, 7mm wetsuit etc).

I can live with it being a bit loose if diving with low/no exposure suit but really don't want it over tight with a drysuit.

That's how I do it myself.
Thanks for everyone's input.
