How does the shore dive at Hotel Cozumel compare with the house reef at Blue Angel?
I’ve dived at Blue Angel and wonder if the $10 tank fee for Hotel Cozumels shore dive is worth it.

thanks

$10 fee? Is that to rent tanks and weights or just for the access? I've dived there when staying elsewhere and the only fee I paid was tank rental.

Anyways, the HC site does have a small replica of a pyramid which is interesting the first time you see it. Other than that, I think the BA site is a bit better, partly because of the stingray pen.

That said, I think the sites down by Tikila and Scuba Shack blow them both away. There's a lot more natural relief and corals.

Yes,the $10 fee is for the tanks. I edited the post to reflect that.

This is the link for an album of things I've seen over the years (at Hotel Cozumel) doing my gear check out dive at the start of each trip. I don't always take my camera on those dives so things are from different trips & not necessarily consecutive trips.

I have done shore dives at BA and hotel coz because i was staying there. If your not staying there go down tikila. Ask for Mario Ceh. There is a circle of rocks and a few coralheads.

Thank you posting this album. That is quite a lot to see shore diving at Hotel Cozumel!

Does anyone know the story behind the pyramid? Who did it, why, how long ago?

The fiberglass pyramid used to sit near the swimming pool at the Hotel Cozumel. It was moved to the ocean in 2006. Here's a photo taken just after the pyramid was sunk. There were eye-bolts in each corner that were removed the next day.

Here's an old image of the pool at Hotel Cozumel. You can see the pyramid on an island in the middle of the pool.

$10 now ? we paid $6 for a tank and weight the last two times we were there. i guess the last visit was fall of 2018. must be due to the new covid mark up. :) not sure if guests get a better rate or not to be honest. i don't think so.

Stay at Scuba Club Cozumel and unlimited shore diving is free. Same great shallow dives, particularly during the night. There’s some bridge rubble five minutes out that has many types of juveniles. We always see octopus against the wall.
