Covid-19 Testing in Cozumel?

Hawaii is FINALLY going to open up and allow people to fly in starting October 15th without having to quarantine for 14 days as long as we have an FDA-approved NAAT test (why it isn't a PCR test is beyond me, but there you have it). Travel

That means that my trip to Cozumel in October with my partner is ON as long as we can get a test 72 hours before we leave Cozumel.

Is there anywhere in Cozumel that offers an NAAT test? I've been looking online, but can't find any information. I thought, maybe, in the international hospital?

Not my area of expertise, but from what I have read the PCR test is actually a type of NAAT test. Several websites seem to use the acronyms interchangeably . (Source WHO and others —WHO was talking about malaria but I included link from South Carolina below ). Not trying to correct you but I just looked into since your comment made me curious Feel free to correct /clarify if I am mis-reading I know an expert I could ask, but this isn’t worth bugging my ex .

Kind of wonder if they should really be using Antigen testing —the video (from Harvard) someone posted a month ago or so noted the lag on the PCR test made it not particularly useful for getting ahead of the highly infectious stage of the disease. The antigen tests had less sensitivity than the PCR, but the speed made them more effective in preventing spread.

To be clear, PCR is more accurate—but time lag may mean you get the answer after you have already gone through the relatively short highly infectious stage. That video indicates the antigen tests were less accurate primarily because they were less sensitive (but during the infectious stage the viral load was so high they would pick them up ). I would re-post the link but don’t feel like searching through 100+ pages of Covid 19 thread from my phone .

Once again , feel free to correct me. Just looked into this out of a combination of curiosity and boredom

CMC is doing the PCR with 24hr turn around apparently for 2,499 pesos. Apparently they got their lab set up to do it on site.

I know International Hospital is doing the antibody test for active and past infection for 950 pesos with a DR consult and it takes minutes to turn around. Send my friend with Covid there. She works at the airport.... (But she is well past active infection )
