Hi everyone,

We (my husband and myself) are new to diving this year, when we had an unexpected few months stay in Taiwan. So we were able to progress from no experience at all in diving, starting from OW and making our rounds of the various dive sites and islands around Taiwan, and eventually progressing to AOW and Rescue Diver with about 50 dives within 60 days.

We were then lucky enough to spend a few weeks in French Polynesia (thanks to all those who have posted their trip reports and suggestions here on Scubaboard), where we were able to dive a bit in Moorea and Huahine before moving onto the Tuamotus and diving in Tikehau, Rangiroa, Fakarava North and South (>30 dives in 28 days!).

Right now, we are finally at the stage where we are getting some of our own gear... again thanks to all of the discussion threads here! Hopefully we will get around to posting our own trip reports and experiences on here soon!

Wow, you guys started off with a bang! Congratulations! As you look at acquiring your own gear, consider whether you anticipate doing any local diving. The Pacific Northwest sounds like it can be quite rewarding...if one can handle the cold. I have not been up there...a southern Channel Islands live-aboard trip out of California was my sole west coast diving experience (and plenty of fond memories to show for it).

Some of the posters on here can share local experiences. I'm still a warm water lover, but if I lived out that way, I'd eventually want to see wolf eels and giant pacific octopus.

Wow! I'm jealous! I'm a new diver too and still waiting for the local dive spot to reopen so I can finish my open water cert!

I've read through some of your research notes on various locations like Galapagos liveaboards, and really want to thank you for putting all of that information together! It kind of looks like my own travel research, except I haven't put everything in a format that would be useful to the general public, so your notes have inspired me to spend some time to put my research for French Polynesia together.

Right now, we're warm water divers, and the thought of the cold is a bit daunting! But I think if we were to go the way of drysuits one day, it would be really cool to see our local marine life!

I think that we were incredibly lucky to have this kind of opportunity as new divers!

Your in a great part of the world for it - we've had to settle for watching the Blue Water Sailing yachts diving off some amazing reefs in those remote places! Good on you both. You must have been fizzing at that rate
