Sept 2021, let's see if I can do it, this year from europe was a complete nightmare to go anywhere, especially to latin america which was a no-go destination for most of us.
Hi all - Colombia is open to international travelers and so is Malpelo,

If anyone can go at last minute, we still have 4 spaces aboard the FEROX for November 1-12, 2020 at special rate of $4000 for single cabins.

Dive Advice Special - 11 nights from Colombia - Max 10 guests - Free nitrox - $4000 plus Park fees @ $40 per dive day x8 $320 - contact us for details.

Craig - thanks for the video - I know Didier and Sandra but not seen this 4K video - its magical and best I have seen. Re the SEA WOLF - she has been operating out of Colombia for over 11 years - used to be with Lenner Ospina - now with Malpelo Tours. She used to be very basic - a backpackers option but they look like they may have cleaned her up. Hopefully they now have hot showers. Ferox is the first choice for Malpelo, she is stable, spacious, well equipped tenders, and very safety conscious - all very important at Malpelo.

After I read this accident, 4 diveres went missing - Malpelo, Colombia I got me a PLB and would like to insure to be on a well equipped and very safety conscious boat.

It was a terrible tragedy and with the availability of PLBs we hope it will never happen again. I have a Nautilus Lifeline but there are a variety of EPIRBs out there. FEROX issues them to all divers, not sure of SEA WOLF does.

What incredible videos. I’m half Colombian and love seeing positive things about this country where I now live. For those of you who have dived Malpelo how challenging are the dives? I’m a new diver and would like to go there.

Ferox issues McMurdo Smartfind S10 PAB (Personal AIS Beacon) to their clients, as stated by Tony, below.

However, PAB is not PLB. PAB transmit AIS Automatic identification system - Wikipedia (VHS radio signal) to the boat (Ferox) AIS, like your Nautilus Lifeline. So it’s line of sight, surface to surface transmission. On the other hand, PLB transmits 406 MHz signal straight up to the SAR satellites to alert the country SAR team (for US the SAR team would be US Coast Guard and US Navy, coordinated by NOAA).

So it’ll be redundant if you carry Nautilus on Ferox. I also carry Nautilus Marine Rescue GPS (new generation of Nautilus Lifeline) in addition to my PLB1, whenever I go diving in open ocean. However when I dive with Ferox, I’ll leave my Nautilus at home and carry my PLB1 with Ferox issued S10. I treat my PLB1 as my last resort of SOS in the event S10 fails to connect me to Ferox.

Here’s what I would carry in each of my BCD pockets wherever I dive in open ocean.

All of my safety signaling devices are tethered to my BCD D-ring to avoid fumbling and sinking to the abyss during deployment.

Thanks Craig - very enlightening and I shall advise my clients to carry the same in this sort of open ocean diving, whether it be Malpelo, Galapagos, Cocos or certain other destinations. Much appreciated.

Wait a minute, Dan's name is Craig?
