I take my Hog D1 with zenith 2nd ice diving and I never ever had an issue. No need to detune them either. If I had to chose from your list, the Poseidon would be my choice.

My Apeks XTX50 has been in Tobermory (41F) with no issues. But it’s not on your list.

I have dove my Apeks DS4 in 2 degree Celsius water with no problems and I know divers who have dove the MTX in ice diving or the same Atlantic conditions I dive

41F is still relatively warm as far as resting a reg’s cold tolerance.

I was worried about this as well, I went with Deep6, and couldn’t be happier.
Have had mine in 4 and 5 degree C waters and no troubles.

After this dive season in Canada, I'm going to retire my old Scubapro MK20/G500 reg (or might still use it for warm waters) since it froze on me at 8 degrees C water. So my next reg I want to get for Canadian waters should be bomb proof - okay I know no such thing but I want the best cold water reg I could get.

8C is not freeze up temps for that reg at all

Couple of other things not identified:
You were breathing like a freight train
Diving deep air (which has a much higher adiabatic cooling factor than trimix)
or
You had a wet fill.

My suspicion is your gas was wetter than you realize.

So I narrowed my choices to the following three cold water regs since they were all US Navy tested I believe.

Apeks MTX-RC
Mares Abyss Navy ii
Poseidon xStream

If anyone here has experience with any of the above in cold water or better yet, had a chance to compare them in cold water, I would appreciate any feedback.
The U.K. Antarctic Team use Sherwood as they’re 1st stage is air filled therefore can’t freeze.
