You sound like a con man. Phrases like "Everybody knows..." and "Fact of the matter is ..."
Maybe you should try selling what is positive about your product rather than running down someone else's product.
And shouting at me in a video doesn't get my attention, it gets my "off" finger.
Hack job.

The guy in the "Divers Ready" Youtube channel is "slick" and puts out his opinions as facts using "group psychology" as you have pointed out to give his "opinions" authority and credibility.

The guy in that video is about as trustworthy as Charles Ponzi.

I could continue on and on.. Heck padi used to certify divers to 130 ft, there was no AOW course. Now they only certify divers to 60 feet and have created another course AOW....

Because cmon' we all know coral classification and digital underwater camera operation is going to help us be able to dive deeper safer , right ?

Point is nothing changed in diving since prior to the change vs now, if anything diving has gotten safer then before 2000 when the change occured. Now virtually everyone is diving using some type of computer, usually redundant, etc etc

Is this your impression or do you know more about him than what we know from his videos?

It isn't just PADI that certifies to 18 meters. Most certify between 18-20 meters (60 65 feet). Most also have an AOW course. You are trying to bash PADI but using arguments that can be made of SSI, SDI, NAUI, etc.

Also, specialties such as coral reef conservation or digital underwater photography are not there to make you a safer diver necessarily. Although some safety aspects can be added into such specialties. They are there to teach you additional skills in areas you may have an interest in learning more about. No one has EVER said digital underwater photography will help you dive deeper....EVER!!!

I should have been more clear. It is my impression based on his half-truths and tactics. I do not know him but I do know I would never trust him.

On a side note, I like promoting diving and not the training organizations I teach under. The organization is a tool. The main sell is diving itself.

I am not sure how you arrived at that analysis. He called up Padi and other operators and asked them what type of offers they where giving for cross-overs and renewals. Other then his editing for "amount of time on hold."

The certifying agencies pretty much where the ones talking.

Hey look. If I was a dive master I most likely would get padi certified or do a padi cross over, since that is what the general population recognizes and dive operators want .. It doesn't mean they are the best or the most thorough or cost effective. They are just the largest and charge a lot.

I happen to agree with you and that is my impression of him too. I have watched a lot of his videos and although some of them have good information, I find him slippery and not somebody I'd trust.

I've used the app for years now to show my certs when diving abroad. Never brought any plastic. Besides, dive centers can check online in case you forgot that piece of plastic.
For new divers, having that card is something they can hold, touch and feel. The reward for completing a course.

Who still makes analogue photographs? Bringing the film roll to a shop to have it developed and a week later collect the photographs. Can't be that long before that is called vintage. Certification cards will go the same way, it just takes time to get used to the change.

...
Wrong. PADI certifies an OW diver to dive within recreational limits. A diver is qualified to dive the depth reached during the course. But this issue has been discussed so many times, it's obviously a subject that's difficult to grasp.
Padi is the largest certifying agency and marketing powerhouse. Sure they could offer the ecards for free, they could even offer printed cards for $5. But they aren't about to.

They are out for money and more and more money. Similarly with online classes, there is no legitimate reason they should cost more then printed books or $120-180... But they do.

All masks could be produced for roughly 30 bucks (and probably less), yet the dive manufacturers charge much more.
Maybe it's because the basic idea of a company is making profit?

All fins could be produced for roughly 15 bucks (and probably less), yet the dive manufacturers charge much more.

I could continue on and on..

It's a market. Choose what you like. And be happy with your choice. Bashing something you didn't choose is not gonna increase your joy.

Clearly businesses don't define competition, customers do... seems like PADI doesn't just have an early mover's advantage and a widespread brand, but also has a strong network of advocates with PADI's pricing positioned firmly in their blind spots (for divers) or focal points (for diving businesses). I wonder what a simple table providing like-for-like comparison of all diving bodies' qualifications, features and fees would do to change this... transparency can be magical!

For what it's worth, PADI did agree to issue me with an eCard for free for my SD (even though I already had a plastic), so I now have both my SD and OW sitting tidily next to each other on my PADI app. I still maintain they should do this without being asked for all individuals registered on PADI.com for any prior qualifications, as a matter of course; charging for an eCard in these times where digital technology is the norm is like taxing people - not cool.
