I find that allot of the Florida Man stories are transplants from other places.

Very true. That feeds into one of the Florida “hazards”, which is all the rejects and refugees from elsewhere. I suppose I am not really a true “Florida Cracker”.. I was dragged here by my family when I was three. Jobs and family have had me all over, but I have always considered Florida to be my home.

Well the relocation move is finally over. We have landed in Edgewood temporarily until we find a house to buy we are in a short term rental. Man it feels good to be back and out of Illinois. Thanks for all the welcomes and replies got a good laugh out of some. Specifically to Ghost95 I voted against those taxes and policies there sadly to no effect. Illinois is truly broken and I feel bad for some of the friends I made over the 9 years I resided there and left behind. Again thanks to all!!

Welcome. I escaped Illinois, and moved (back) to FL 5 yrs ago. We always have a steady influx of people moving here.

maybe Illinois will eventually figure out how to manage their state before Everyone leaves.
No they won’t

Welcome (back) to Florida! When I was young I wanted to move to another state. Then I got a decent job and did some traveling to other states (Kalifornia, IllNoise, New Yuck, MassiveTwoShits, etc). The more states I see, the more I love Florida.

As far as non-Floridians living here, in my experience the vast majority are Canadians. There are lots of Canadians here, especially in the winter. Fortunately, Canadians seem to be good folks.

I spent a lot of time in Florida in the early and mid 60s. It was pretty spectacular back then. Now I mostly go to visit friends. There are a few nice places left, but nothing like when I was a young guy. Most of Florida these days reminds me of Staten Island with a sub- tropical climate.

I've never been to staten island so I can't make the comparison but there are still some "Old Florida" beaches such as Bradenton beach. One story wash through buildings with lots of slat windows. Walk out the door and you're on the beach. It's good. Unfortunately they ruined Clearwater beach a few years back and now it's more like something on the East coast (high rise condos everywhere). There's some old Florida left, but you do actually have to look now. Basically the common/popular places are probably the worst to go to if you're looking for Old Florida.
