Sigh....

My attempt at humor was in response to a previous post and in no way met to be taken seriously. Most everyone here is making some sort of a joke except for a few who are serious, political or whatever.
Sorry if my attempt at humor fell flat.
Haha, it was pretty subtle. Sorry your humor was lost on me :) I am finally diving after almost 10 months of staying dry, so I am all chill and must be a little slow on the uptake. You got to admit the piss-poor preparation job for the ad. I am curious what were they thinking (literally speaking) when they were planning it out. They had to get the gear from somewhere... EBay? :) would a shop rent out a gear and tanks without a c-card?

All good. As far as how they are geared up, spend some time on charter boats and you'll see kit's like that. It's amazing how gear is rigged sometimes. I've even dove with people in weird setups. They have been rigging their gear in a, uh, "non-standard" way for so long that they're comfortable with it and were fairly comfortable in the water.

Producers figured "well, this is a car ad not a diving ad so slap some gear on them and sent them into the surf. Everyone will be concentrating on our awesome shots of the car they won't notice the dive gear anyway". They apparently underestimated Sucbaboard forum members:wink:

Safe Diving!

I owe everyone here an apology. Chevy's ad agency hired me, as a certified diver, to consult for them and set up the scuba gear for this commercial. I got very distracted by all of the goings on of the set, the cars, the actresses, and did a poor job setting up the gear.

Fortunately the entire shot was done in a studio in front of a green screen and these talented actors were nowhere near the water and free from danger my haste created.

Everything is a political statement now...I could fart and someone would take it as a political statement, get all butt hurt, and start pontificating about greenhouse gas or something. It's just cabbage people, chill out.
If farting makes your butt hurt, you should go see a proctologist.

That's great how you managed to get to look like they were actually walking through water.

But if getting them geared up was your only job . . .what can we say?

Well, you better make sure there are no actresses around when you go diving yourself and set up your own gear! :)

I am truly impressed and inspired by the depth of analysis demonstrated by SB posters, as usual. And this is no laughing matter. But what really infuriates me - and I am hoping the SB brain trust can chime in here - is how the "experts" who draw Spongebob Squarepants could let poor Sandy Cheeks dive with no air at all! My god, what is the world coming to?

If you are a manager for a project that will have a scuba diving scene for a national commercial ad, wouldn’t you hire a real diver to help with setup and make sure things look authentic?

They got the gear somewhere, how could it have been difficult or expensive to get someone to set the "divers" up properly? I ask rhetorically, of course.

They had to get the gear from somewhere...

Hey folks, we're making a commercial here. Pick up the scuba gear from Wardrobe, put it on, and walk in the water. Get a move on, time is money, and we have a Ford to shoot here in an hour.

Let's face it, if a big budget picture with people for continuity can miss details in a scene, what's chances of a low budget ad with a short schedule missing an unimportant detail.

She has a rebreather built into her suit, you just cannot see it.

Good or bad the advertisement worked [for the advertiser], a whole bunch of people are talking about it, and most would not give it a 2nd look.
