I got a Hero9 when they launched and just came back from a dive trip last weekend.
You definitely need filters, I didn’t have any on the trip and the pics/vids are lacking red.

Overall, are you happy with the purchase though?

What is everyone using for software?
I've been using Cyberlink PowerDirector 15, a popular software with lots of instructions videos on Youtube. The latest version you can buy is 18, and unfortunately they're gone to a subscription model, which I don't like because I don't make that many videos to make it worthwhile so I'll stick with my old version which works fine.

The backscatter flip filters are real nice to use. Yes, you can get similar filters independently for much cheaper. The convenience is a bigger deal than you'd think. We tried a loaner on scubaboard's 2018 invasion trip and were hooked.

FLIP8/9 Pro Package with SHALLOW & DIVE Filters & +15 MacroMate Mini Lens for GoPro HERO 5, 6, 7, 8, 9

I've got it on a hero7 but backscatter says the same kit will work on 8 and 9.

So if you are buying a Gpro 9 you will have to buy the safety suit for it and this also means you will have to buy filters from Polar Pro or the new Flip version for Gpro 9. The Gpro 8 safety suit and Polar Pro filters will not fit the Gpro 9. I can tell you for a fact (real life underwater experience) that the Back Scatter Flip 7 does not work well on either the 8 or 9 . I would highly recommend you buy the Gpro 9. Retire anything older than the 8. If possible buy the Backscatter filters over the Polar Pro. The color correction is just better tuned.

I have a Hero 4 black. So I wanted to get Macro the Go Pro's cannot do.
So I bought an Olumpus TG6 and am happy. Go Pro is better probably on long distance video as the TG6 will sometimes need to refocus. Go pro with the fixed lens doesn't need to do that. I mounted the Go Pro in the dry port of the Camera housing.

I made my own camera platform for my Hero 4 and some Knog Lights and moved to TG6 to that with Big Blue VL4200P lights.

Nice I like that. Now that I have my own BC and regs and other crap how much space a new piece of gear takes (and weight) is a consideration but that looks lightweight and takes up little space.

Yeah the camera platform is extremely light. It surprises people who use the metal frames when they pick it up. The main weight now is really the Big Blue lights. The platform glides in the water and with two handles I can keep it stable.

Or I can set it down to get steady video. My safety line is simply an old sports shoe lace. I sort of have to laugh at people that buy these plastic coated cable lines for US$30 to clip their camera to their BCD rings. They look at my show lace and go dang why didnt I think of that. easy to dry take up no space and also useful for other things lol.

This with the Go Pro Hero4 and the Knog Lights. You can see video is a bit green till lights get into range. Watch to the end, go full screen you and see this Octopus gets bittern twice by a parrot fish which you can see escape after the really nasty bite. This octopus was really not bothered by my presence. You can see my insta buddy go past and abandon me as he signals a guide up ahead lol

Later on he sees the video and asks when was that. I got on the last dive, oh look there you are watching me as you drift away lol He never saw the octopus I was filming rocks again ....
