Answers to various questions (I am using a phone, so not going to use the quote function )
1). Equipment: I used Sony RX100 VII, Nauticam Housing, Sea and Sea YSD3 strobes. Used Nauticam CMC 2 wet macro lens for the macro in these shots—the stronger CMC 1 is usually too powerful with this particular camera setup using the standard port for anything but the Painted Elysia nudibranchs (which I didn’t have in this post ).
2). inquisitive eel. This green moray chased me and friend back in June. She might have had a small camera but certainly wouldn’t have gotten too close. It got bored chasing her but chased me after her since I got the bright idea to try to take a picture of a free-swimming eel. ColoDale and horn34 both posted similar issues with the eel as part of Cozumel Diving Today thread around June 21st.
3). I haven’t heard of anyone getting bitten by an eel in a long time, but I don’t hang out in cantinas with DMs and Captains so I wouldn’t necessarily know (of course no one is hanging out in cantinas right now due to Covid closures ). I knew a DM that said he lost his finger to an eel, but that was more than 20 years ago when they used to feed the eels at Cedar Pass. Think they took down hard boiled eggs. He said was waving hand in front of eel and not paying attention. Not 100 percent certain story was true (this is something told to me while drinking 15 years ago) , but it was believable. One of many reasons not to feed the animals
EDIT: 4). I never look at the temperature on my computer, but I would have guessed 82-83 based on recent reports. I dove Friday (yesterday), temperature didn’t seem much different that last few weeks. I would check my computer for you, but it and and are in different countries for the next two weeks

You posted all those photos (well done) but none of any Mermaids. Are you keeping them private?
Chased you or followed you? What do you think would have happened if you had not tried to get away?
Many years ago a DM I was diving with coaxed a very large green moray out in the open and draped it around his neck and shoulders like a feather boa.

I really don’t want to find out what would happen if it caught me. Obviously if it really wants to catch a diver it would since it can swim faster. Usually putting fin towards it keeps most things away. I know I had to more or less push back a nurse shark with my fins off Ambergris Cay Belize years ago (they were feeding them and he kept bumping me look for food )
Just to be clear, we are talking about 1 specific eel, not a widespread problem. I kind of figure if it had bitten anyone, something would have quietly been done. That eel isn’t hard to find. Also just wanted to be clear that Cedral on Friday was an awesome dive. Would gladly do it over and over again
