Wrecks like this one would be much better if divers were not obsessed with looting. Just leave the stuff where it lies, that is part of the exploration. It's one thing if it is a chest of gold bars but the guys picking up booze bottles, curio shop gifts and soap dishes should just leave the wreck alone. All of this junk ends up on some idiot's shelf where nobody ever looks at it and after 20 years it gets thrown out.

The same thing applies to meg teeth -- they should be left where they are so future divers can appreciate them. Look at them, handle them if they are accessible, but there is no reason any diver needs to own meg teeth. Selling them for profit is even worse. Diving is about a generation behind the rest of outdoor sporting where "Leave no Trace" has been the mantra for a long time. LNT includes disturbing artifacts.

We are being very judgemental about something we know nothing about today???

I can't believe this is still up after all these years. If you like the Doria this should keep you busy over the holidays.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS
MAGNIFICENT!

and imagine when the Andrea Doria starts giving up its portholes and windows

If this is your goal, it’s a considerable ways away.....several levels of tech training and a lot of experience dives. And preferably several stepping stone wrecks......one, if I may suggest, should be “the Empress of Ireland”......in our own back yard. Best of luck on your journey.

I actually know a guy that has a window.

JT still has a couple Doria photo albums up as well - 1999 and 2001 - Capt JTs Photo Gallery

Not at all. Years ago I was looking at the curio shelf / memorial at my local LDS and noticed some crystal and china from the Andria Doria. I asked the owner, and he said they were brought up by Chris and Chrissy Rouse (this was their local shop). This intrigued me enough to learn more and to read "The Last Dive". Seeing these physical mementos was inspiring, even if I'll never dive that wreck.

dberry,

The Rouses, a very sad story indeed, and a prime example of the statement:

''There is absolutely nothing down there, worth your life"

One of our biggest nemeses' is ''bucket lists'', some of us would live a lot longer if we never had one.

Sorry, only my perspective as a funeral director.

Rose.

Then again, would we want to live longer without goals and dreams in our lives?

Not saying you have to do stuff without thinking. You should prepare in the best way you can before you do something that can be dangerous, but not doing anything at all is always a lot safer then to do even a simple open water dive.

A ship is safe in harbor, but that is not what ships are built for
