Do you know of any clubs/groups/organisations (IL, WI, MI) that I could get in touch with? History, archeology, construction (former furniture maker) are all interests.

Quick and brief about me for context-Chicago native but longtime (dual citizen) in Australia. Currently living in Austin, TX. A family situation brings me back to Chicago approx every 6 weeks. Since I am there so often, I’m “basing” my diving and photo work in the Great Lakes region. I know living in Texas but concentrating on Lakes diving seems crazy, but consider the fact that it is a 4~5 hour drive (minimum) to the Gulf from Austin (6.5 hours to Texas Clipper wreck, 9 hours to Pensacola), that same driving time can put me (from Chicago) practically anywhere on the Great Lakes.

I have been diving the local wrecks while in town (with Double Action), and enjoyed them but I’m more about involvement with a dedicated, organised group. I prefer “diving with a purpose” (have participated in citizen-science and conservation projects) and diving with buddies/friends.

Divemaster (PADI), photographer. Have cold and poor vis experience. Not a Tec diver but thinking I may train up to twinsets in the near future. In short, I know how to behave and be a good buddy.
Hope this isn't too long, and I'd appreciate any info you can send my way.

Thanks, lowwall. Good to know UASC are just on hold. I sent an email to them a few weeks ago but got no reply. I was worried that they were no longer an ongoing org. I'll try to contact them again via different channels, maybe better in the new year when things hopefully improve.
Thanks again, that's great news!

I dug a little deeper. They have been continuing the meetings via Zoom, just not as often as pre-Covid. There aren't any scheduled for December. UASC communicates through a listserv. Go here to sign up for the listserv and see the previous meeting announcements: UASC Announcements

I’m a UASC member. We never have a December meeting due to the holidays. Meetings are the 4th Wednesday of the month.
