I HIGHLY recommend getting a custom hood from Otter Bay in Monterey, CA. The owner, Cricket, will work with you to get it just right. Her hoods are more like "neoprene helmets." They keep you very warm. www.otterbaysuits.com

I second this recommendation. I was never warm (while diving cold water) until I got my Otter Bay Hood and to have a hood that actually fit me like it was made for me... because it was, well, I still hate hoods, but I hate them a little less.

I have been using Otter Bay dry hoods for over 25 years (since long before they were "Otter Bay.") But I recently decided that I wanted a vented hood and found that I like the Bare Ultrawarmth 7mm very much. I also bought a K01 standard dry hood in 8mm (at a pricey $150) but haven't got that one to work with my OTS Spectrum mask yet. Have only tried it once however. I will say that it fits like a friggin' glove and is super comfortable though.

Have you settled on a favorite drysuit hood? I am in the market for a new one and was considering Otter Bay Otter Bay seems to be popular for our cool Puget sound water. I have a Bare Elastek Dry hood, 7mm I think, that I am happy with but it is starting to lose some stitching. If I get a Bare Hood it would be between the Ultrawarmth or the Elastek 9mm.

The Bare is working pretty well although I find that the vent does let a fair amount of water in. The K01 just will not work as the face opening is a little too large for my OTS Spectrum mask to seal properly. I tried one of my old Otter Bay hoods but it was so tight at the chin that I couldn't stand it to clean even one boat. Plus, it is unvented and is prone to inflating with a FFM. So for now I'm sticking with the Bare. I am tempted to buy a face-seal SeaSoft in 6mm however, as I read a good review of it.

I am very happy with my Santi 11mm hood. It has a nice fit and is really warm, I even wear it during the summer.

Another advantage is I can put it on myself without help from my buddy (I have long hair which makes putting on any type of hood a bit of a fuss).

I really like the Seasoft Scuba Drysuit Hoods. I have the 6mm FFM version, and a 3mm hood. I am very pleased with both.
