I tried to keep my RTs short enough to not need to carry a deco gas.
At some point it makes sense to carry extra gas for deco but I had to balance maneuverability and lowered drag needed to efficiently spearfish with a slung or backmounted deco tank. Shortening my dives and doing more of them netted me more BT vs deco times in addition.

No, as I'm not certified for deco, back-gas or otherwise.
If I was, I likely might some of the time, given planning as an option, warmth, redundancy (sidemount), etc.

Does "recreational divers" mean people without any formal tech/deco training? Or are you asking if tech divers sometimes do dives that call for short backgas deco without extra bottles?

Its common for me and my friends to do dives that require a few minutes of backgas deco. HOWEVER that deco is always planned, and there is always appropriate redundancy for the overhead dive that it is.

Deciding spontaneously during a dive to go into deco with only a single tank and computer is more risk than I am personally willing to take on. I would consider being in that position at least a minor emergency. Although other people casually do it all the time.

Yes, with a poll, thanks, you could reply
No, I'm tired of the subject, and won't be following the thread, as it seems to have all been said. But thanks for the opportunity.

Yes, as with any deco, well thought out and planned for.
