There is a whole section about cutting tools full of very good discussions on the different types, materials, etc.

My question is slightly different... Where and how do you keep your cutting tools? For example, on the wrist, on the calf, in a pocket of the drysuit, etc. etc.
Of course, that also depends from the type of cutting tool. For example where do you keep the trilobite? Or the shears? And knives of course

Thanks

I keep my trilobite on the webbing of the front of my BC. It's been handy to open bags of candy mostly. :wink:But I did use it to cut some fishing line wrapped around a bit of coral on a dive once.

You are correct that everyone will have a different location depending on how they dive.

I'm a spearo. My biggest concern is shooting a large fish with a line attached to my gun and the fish circles me repeatedly. In most cases I will be trying to ascend so the fish will circle below and potentially wrapping line around my legs and waist. For that reason I keep my stiletto 5 inch knife zip tied to my inflator hose. I could put it on my bicep but I'm also laying in the sand reaching in a hole for a bug and it would get fouled.

I know you asked "Where" but the interesting answers will also include " WHY do you do that?"

My knife is attached to the mounting holes on the left side pocket of my BCD. Easy to get to with my right hand and it's out of the way. I also carry a spare cutter in my right side BCD pocket. Same reason.

Dive knife on waistband on my right side and shears on the left side. That way I always have a cutting implement immediately to hand in an emergency.

Thinking about a trilobyte which might be attached to my wrist but not 100% decided yet.

Ceramic dgx sharpcut (upgraded trilobyte design) on my DC's wrist strap. Shears on one of my bcd straps behind me. Near where the strap meets the backplate. Yes, it's behind me, and yes it's fairly easy to reach it. I haven't used the shears "for real" because so far I've never encountered anything that the regular cutter couldn't easily handle.

I gave up on regular knives about 5 years ago after donating a few to davey jones.

.... and keep a line cutter on each computer strap.

Very interesting and unique. Would you have a picture of the setup?
