It depends on what you mean. The only requirement from the CDC is for testing prior to the flight home. That is enforced. The quarantine is a recommendation from the CDC, not a requirement. And again, the recommendation is focused more for those that test negative prior to their return to cover for exposure not detected by the test or from the trip home.

Copy and paste from the email...

“CDC does not require that international travelers undergo a mandatory federal quarantine but does recommend you get tested and stay home after travel.”
You can see why I am confused. The EO says:

I quote: "It is the policy of my Administration that...travelers seeking to enter the United States from a foreign country shall be...required to comply with other applicable CDC guidelines...including recommended periods of self-quarantine or self-isolation after entry into the United States."
I completely agree with your last sentence: "the recommendation is focused more for those that test negative prior to their return to cover for exposure not detected by the test or from the trip home."
THE CDC says it is a recommendation; the EO says following the recommendation is required.

Absolutely and I am certainly no better at understanding the workings of the US government than anyone else! But it seems Bidden made the EO but left it to the CDC to determine enforcement and thus far the CDC has elected not to enforce the recommendation.

Yeah, I'll go with that interpretation....
Thanks for all your digging and due diligence on this!

It's interesting to see that the majority of the active posters here on SB is pro-restriction, anti-travel and extremely quick to judge someone with a different opinion, with terms like selfish, idiot, etc.

I've been restricted in almost everything for a year now. Followed the rules. Masks, no travel, no holiday, curfew. Not even shopping, although that has been impossible for weeks now.
I have seen how society became divided between pro-vaccine and anti-vaccine, and the first group has a loud and clear presence in this board.

So what have all these restrictions done for your immune system? I know, lots of people around, who are not healthy. Lots of chronic diseases, and mankind has managed to keep all kinds of genetic defects alive for decades. Until now, while nature has been winning from medical science during the last year.
There's vaccines around, but without proven trials and study results (and loads of opinions about that as well). And a small percentage of the vaccinated elderly dies within days (of course not from the vaccine).

Anyone who travels now, is convicted here as irresponsible. Usually by people who are afraid of the virus.
Anyone who does not want a sars-cov-2 vaccine, is convicted here as irresponsible. Because that person is (supposedly) putting others at risk. Arguments from those afraid of the virus.

A year of covid has passed.
A whole year to do something about your health.
A whole year to strengthen your immune system.

And yes, I feel really sorry for you if you're part of that high-risk group. But how fracking difficult is it to stop blaming the healthy for that? Blame your own health first, blame mother nature next. Because I'm not taking you out of the gene pool, mother nature is doing that.

Travel will be possible again. Initially for the vaccinated people, eventually for those with a normal functional healthy immune system. Because if that immune system doesn't work, the vaccine won't do sh!t for you. And you can hide, but eventually sars-cov-2 will knock on everyones door. Mother nature is a bitch.....

And now back to the usual pro-vaccine, pro-restriction and anti-travel programming....

-Yep, surprising amount of judgment here, disappointed to see that. Why is it so difficult for people to just be reasonable? - It goes both ways - and yet I feel I have to say it...
We can't eliminate all risk, besides we're all dying every day... This is ride is only so long, so hiding in fear doesn't make sense at some point.

Really???

Bro, do you even scubaboard?

But this isn't the Pub ... you'd think people would be a bit more civil about their disagreements.

I've heard about the pub, but don't know it. Don't care to either.

This topic is very personal, exhausting, has vast swings in severity of impact, and has had a direct influence to the most uncivil our society has been in our lifetimes.

Ths isn't meant to be snarky, but why would scubaboard be any different?

We know the virus doesn't spread by itself. We know it's those long hauls that have brought variants. We've seen places like NZ, Australia, Taiwan, ??? control spread by limiting travel. We know the longer the situation lasts, the greater impact it has on economies and mental health. Yet... some people feel they are the exception to the rule and can move about safely, which no doubt a lot of people think they can do, but everyone's safety standards are different, so we're a year in...

I'm always surprised when people are surprised that conversations get heated over what is literally a life and death matter. As in, 2.46 million dead worldwide now. If your vacation matters more to you, at least own it.
