35 new cases today. One mortality. The data shows it's going to get quite a bit worse before it gets better. I see a full lockdown on the horizon.

"Research has shown that the virus could spread quickly because a group of people in a catering business spent the evening dancing and singing. Many cases of the current infections and groups of infections, clusters, have to do with this singing and dancing party. The people infected there subsequently passed on the virus to mainly housemates and colleagues. The expectation is that the effect of the tightened measures will be seen in the course of next week. If everyone adheres to the measures, we hope to see a decrease."

I love Bonaire, and cannot wait to go back, but I am not going to get on a plane and go there (or anywhere) until this is all over. I do not want to bring cooties there, nor risk getting them sitting in a sealed can shoulder to shoulder with many other people for hours. I have some difficulty understanding, with all the measures being taken on the ground, and the persistence of this virus, how international flights are even happening.

Reference my comments on flying....I thought it was being inferred that the virus was being transmitted on the plane. Its my understanding this not the case. Further, passengers being screened for vaccine status would significantly reduce the risk of transmission via flying would it not? Real world data out of Israel suggest the vaccines are significantly reducing transmission. If every passenger on the plane has been screened for vaccination and all adults on Bonaire have been offered vaccinations, I would say open up. It appears zero covid is not going to happen. Waiting on that we'll be sitting here doing nothing and going bankrupt forever.

Very little suggests that transmission is much of an issue for vaccinated people. My agency has seen zero cases in employees 2 weeks after their second shot, despite working with covid+ Pts every day. It's a sample size of only a few hundred, so it's kind of in the gray area between anecdote and data. It's being tracked and will be included in a large study of multiple types of health care workers in our area.
