Well I received a bit of a surprise this morning, a ballot for the NSS-CDS BOD election and bylaw change. I never joined the NSS-CDS, so I never checked the membership lists that Adam posted but I did after receiving the ballot and find my name on the list. Not sure how that happened.

It happened because everyone who gets certified as a cavern or cave diver through the NSS-CDS automatically is given a one-year membership. I am sure you fell into that category.

You likely became a member when you were certified through the NSS-CDS. People that have never been a member of the NSS-CDS receive a complimentary 1 year membership when they earn their first certification through the organization.

I also got a ballot this morning. I attempted to join CDS in January. I never received any membership details and my payment was refunded. But I did the due diligence, read all the candidate platforms looking for specific proposals for reform, did a bit of external research on social media, and voted.

I voted against the by-law change because it was presented as one long item with multiple changes rather than specific bylaw amendments.

There should be two documents, one showing the current by-laws with the markup for the changes, the second being the new by-laws in their entirety.

The new by-laws, as proposed on the web-site, add the use of electronic voting and clarify a few things (language cleanup). As they did not include the last minute addition that a few people on the board tried to rush through, I voted yes for them.

Well either it is every certification or the system is broken and it doesn't expire, because my first NSS-CDS cert was Feb 2019.

Although I've never received the magazines.

you have to be Abe Davis to dive it. Not that it really matters since the owners of dive outpost don’t actually check anymore. I’m thinking that’s something the CDS should be putting some effort into dealing with.
