Here goes another thread derailment, but...
I hear this again and again: Apeks seat failure in a high O2 environment...
Is there a thread? Should I start one? Where is the data?
And if it's true, why hasn't everybody switched to Poseidon XStreams? Or at least 3960's?

You can't seal the MK2 or MK3 first stages.
3960's can be sealed but it's ugly and a righteous PITA to deal with in comparison to the Apeks design. The picture below is from the wet mules, mine has a custom machined brass adapter that replaces the whole IP adjustment mechanism, but it's still not nearly as convenient as the Apeks style

Ah, yes. I'd forgotten the CMF/needle issue. But for us eCCR folks, why Apeks? I'm getting ready to jettison my US4's on my JJ...

Use whatever you want. JJ and the rest of the Euro mfg's use Apeks because they're cheap in the EU and widely available. ISC uses them because of history. No reason not to change them to whatever is convenient that you want. My Meg has 3960's on it, especially since it has an OPV built in that doesn't suck

How does this fully seal out ambient? What a kluge! Fascinating!
teflon tape since that screw is pushing directly against the diaphragm transmitter there is some semblance of threads sealing from the pressure.

What did rEvo start using for O2 reg once Mares started putting there parts in? My rEvo is an early one with only a few buckles with the Mares branding on them. I know later they got the Mares regs CE approved and you had an option of which 1st stages you could get. Apeks or Mares.
 
So when people on this forum are talking about plugged 1ast stages or CMF with needle valves are they talking about units with the CMF 'effectively' turned off? Or is there a nuance I am missing, that the CMF would get switched on or off during the dive?

No we're talking about running a needle valve or a 0.025" orifice with a 200-225+psi IP. There is still constant mass flow, just far deeper than the 80m revo/kiss default which is an artifact of their stock 0.035" orifice and ~145psi IP.

200+psi IP gets you into >400ft territory and there are very few people that need to worry about 400ft being a "depth limit".

Ps you can also shut down your CMF for certain deeper dives and add O2 from a separate compensated source. I think this has fallen out of favor compared to needle valves or smaller orifices & higher IPs.

There is no thread. I know of quite a few newer JJs that came with DS4s that have had failed seats within a year. There are plenty of techs complaining on the book of face about how the new Apeks seats suck. It does not appear to be an O2 problem, the last 2 to 3 years have had legions of Apeks seats fail "early" in plenty of normal use regs in air or nitrox service. I have no idea why, material/production change from the nylon manufacturer is my best guess.

I doubt there is a comprehensive dataset, who would compile and publish it
 
I have read several posts on facebook from Alexandr Ilbitskiy in which he advocates for dual rebreathers as an amazing option that takes a lot of fuss out of the bailout planning. If i had the money i’d try it and let you know! Lol

He also doesn’t believe in tow scooters or scooter redundancy because “his scooter doesn’t fail.”
