I am looking into my first BP/W in the very near future. My question is do these have to have an annual service from your LDS like your regs and BCDs do?

They're not like fins, masks, and hoods, which require DOT inspections every two years.

Most LDS’s have probably never seen a BP/W in the flesh so no you don’t take it to them. You rinse it inside and out after diving including the inflator hose and valves and don’t worry about it.

Salt is to be avoided.
Rinse the unit inside and out after diving.
Pay special attention to the power inflator and the dump valves. Sticky power inflator = problem(salt or corrosion), replace it or service it(DIY). I will avoid all those fancy power inflators around.

Have fun.

Disassembling it before rinse and putting it back together after all parts dried is recommended.

If your backplate has coating on, placing small piece bicycle tubing between plate and bolts also help you to prevent your backplate crushing and damaging.

I read the exact same question in the comment section of a yt video today :D

Keep the wing clean. Inspect the webbing and the valves. And ask a qualified technicil if you see something odd. Or do it yourself.

I recommending decontaminating your wing atleast once a year or as needed. Fill with fresh water + steramine. Otherwise everyone's advice is spot on.

I don't want to open a new thread, because this might be Interesting to the OP aswell:
As steramine is not really available in Europe. Does anyone use virkon S for Desinfektion of mouthpeace and wing?
