Been diving since the early 80's. Got into diving to take a trip to Grand Cayman after graduating college. Fell in love with it. Only by accident that I went on to become a Divemaster/Assistant Instructor. I had so much fun taking students on fun dives and turning them onto diving. I did this for 15 years then became a PADI Instructor. Decided to become an instructor because I knew people who were instructors or becoming instructors that I had help become Open Water divers. I realized I had more experience than most instructors so I felt like I needed to take that next step to Instructor. After teaching a couple of years, I went on and got involved in some technical diving including Nitrox/Advanced Nitrox, Deco and Full Cave Certification, all through TDI. The last 6 or 7 years, I have concentrated on my work and did not dive a whole lot except for going to Athens Scuba Park on the weekends. Was fortunate to help Calvin with several of this wrecks at the park. I got to "ride the Jet" in when he sunk it. We all got on TV and the segment from ABC Dallas made it to CNN world wide about the jet sinking. I was also on the Dart bus when it went in. We all helped prepare the wrecks and clean them up before sinking. Anyhow, I am getting back into diving which I love. I am working to get back to where I am comfortable in my tech gear. I am a little heavier and a little rusty but I am working on all this. Just a couple of sidenotes, I was fortunate enough to dive with Joel Shiner at Aquarena Springs back in the mid 80s. He was a character and enjoyed knowing him. As a DM/AI and instructor, I dove at Travis nearly every weekend. Pisces Scuba was our hang out. I knew Danny Faas going all the way back when he was manager for Scuba West and Aqua Adventures back in Dallas. So when he ended up in Austin, Pisces became second home. We did the Friday night happy hours at his shop shooting bottle rockets at the dive flag on top of the bill board. Became real good friends with Cynthia and helped her with a few of her classes when she taught for him. One of these days I will dive on Danny's memorial down at the park next to the dam. Lots of good times there.
