My favorite is snorkeling on the reefs in the Bahamas. They are warm, clear, calm, reasonably shallow, and loaded with life. By snorkeling I can dive all day if desired. The only gear required is mask snorkel and fins. Simple.
SCUBA is a much bigger effort but makes some of the deeper sites more accessible. Even there I prefer the shallower dives. They have better light and I can linger for hours.
My wife and I have found Bonaire to be a favorite due to its easy shore diving. The Great Barrier Reef was fun too.
Now most of my diving is for testing the MaxAir swim fins. That requires a lot of time effort and meticulous record keeping.

- It's a hodge podge but I like the Oceanic Atom wireless dive computer for its 5 PSI resolution on the pressure gauge.
My parents called me a fish. First certified as a PADI Junior Diver in 1970 I moved onto a sailboat and traveled 45,000 over 5 years in the Caribbean, Bahamas, and Western Europe. Most of my underwater time was without tanks but they came in handy for maintenance work.
My "real job" as a civil engineer left me in a position where I had the resources to design swim fins that actually use hydrodynamics to create lift and thrust while reducing drag. Boa t building and maintenance skills allowed me to make the new design and test them. The result is the MaxAir Swim fin which is shaking out to be the world's most air efficient recreational swim fin. The big manufacturers agree but don't want to cannibalize their investments so we need to work together to get these into the market place.Interact
