Hi all - my girlfriend and I are looking for basic BCDs (no BP/W, no back inflates, etc.) in the $200 to $300 price range. We want a stable tank set-up, integrated weights, and that's about it. I like to have big pockets for camera gear, but she doesn't need 'em.

I'm thinking about these two:

Has anyone used these? Does anyone have any similar BCDs to recommend?
Thanks, trig

Hi, for stab-jacket, you might want to have a loog at the libra from Tripple-L / Scuba-L.

It's less then 200 USD and it should be good; I have the Orion from the same company and it proved great up to now (I had around 50 dives on it).

A piece of advice, try them out in a pool if you can before you buy them.

My wife and I both got TUSA. She got a side inflate (Selene) and I a back inflate (Imprex Pro Cubic).

She's not loving hers as much because it's very restrictive, especially when inflated on the surface.

Both are quality made and neither of us have had any technical issues.

I would highly recommend getting a back inflate though, more movement and while diving it will help to keep you in the horizontal position. :)

I know these are a slightly above your price range but take at look at the Oceanic's. ScubaToys has good price on a Chute 3 right now for you and your wife can avoid the squeeze with a Oceanic Isla. My wife uses the Isla and loves it. While it's a jacket style it doesn't squeeze.

The Zeagle Escape is a nice BC for $339.

I started out in a Tusa Imprex Pro BCD. I really liked it. Dived it for about a year and a half and managed to break it. Sent it back to Tusa, and they replaced it as a warranty item.

However, during the four weeks that I was without it, I rented a ScubaPro SuperHawk that I decided I liked better ... so when my new Tusa arrived, I sold it and bought a SuperHawk ...

sigh ... I'm such a gear ho ... :eyebrow:

Thanks folks. Neither of us fiddle with our BCDs much underwater, so basically we need tank holders. It looks like the Tusas have a nice setup to keep the tank stable and secure.

Has anyone had any experience with these particular BCDs? Thanks.

I have the Platina Evo, the 3850, and I really like it. I've used AL-80s up to HP-130s in it with no problem. Lots of lift and the integrated weight system works well. Depending on the size of camera housing you have, keeping it in any BC pocket may be an issue. But I do store lots of things in the pockets and there are lots of D-rings on it.
