The government, DOD, Corp of Enginneers, are hiring bilogist to help them out with water permits. Depending on where you are, divng is there for you. For a pure challenge in diving, go for a comercial license. You'll learn more in a comercial diving school than you will ever with any of the Diving agencies.
I have a degree in Marine Bilogy and a Masters In Budgeting planning and Control and work for Uncle Sam as an Environmental Specialist (14 years). For every hour you spend underwater , you'll spend 10 in the lab. If I had todo it over again, I would have studied marine engineering.

I noticed a short article in either Dive Training or Sport diver about marine wardens. I am shooting for that someday...maybe. I decided that being close to good diving is more important that diving for a living. I am hoping to find a position with the US Park Service, maybe on Hatteras Island in North Carolina, when I graduate with a degree in Environmental Science.

I'm about half way through my 2nd year of college right now. I am majoring in history. I would recommend that you take as many classes through the school as you can, all the ones here are taught at cost because your student fees pay the instructors. In a little more than a year I went from jr. open water diver to divemaster with certs in first aid CPR pro and O2, and I tripled the number of dives I have. No matter what you major in, join the scuba club if they have one. The club here gets full use of all cyliders and gear whenever they go diving.

p.s. I have found that in respect to diving the counselors here only think about marine bio, they were usless for me.
