Just received this e-mail:

To all concerned Divers,
We are trying to sink a submarine that was donated by the US Navy.
January 13, 2007, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The USS Sailfish is a decomissioned Submarine. The US Navy says it will let us use it as an artificial reef for LA's new proposed wreck alley.
We need your Help ! Come to the meeting and help us. This will be a diveable wreck. Wanna go down ?
Come to Burbank on Saturday
As decided at our last STSLA on-line meeting, we are holding the first meeting of the year for the newly elected board and members in Burbank starting at 10:00 a.m. on January the 13th. This is a vitally important meeting and we are having some very important guests including Dick Long, the founder of DUI and the force behind the sinking of the Yukon in San Diego.

Where do they want to put it?

Everyboby in the dive community should be at this meeting especially those of you living in S.Ca. Think how great it would be to have our own wreck in the L.A. area.

Happy Wreck Diving

Good luck! I will be looking for an update here after the weekend. Is anyone taking photos?

So, does anyone have a report on this meeting for those of us that are interested but already had plans to be out of town at the Wrinkles Dive in La Jolla?

Does it look like this is really going to happen?

Is there a proposed site picked out for the sinking?

This sounds like the start of something really cool for the L.A. area!

Christian

The sub has moved to the top of the list of available vessels. The list of sites include Santa Monica Bay near the Palawan or the Star of Scotland, Laguna Beach off Reef Point and the Huntington Flats area off L.A. and Long Beach Harbors. With visibility variances in the bay and deep water too far offshore from O.C., I believe it will end up near the Olympic wreck. It would be convenient for the Long Beach and L.A. boats and would allow a short run to nearby wrecks for subsequent dives.
