Six string superman,

The last paragraph in the second DAN link that Gene Hobbs provided gives you the reason why you shouldn't take up diving with the condition you have.

thanks...very informative

Hello Everyone,

I am very interested in becoming a diver, but my lung collapsed about 3 years ago. I went to the doctor and they said that would not sign the release form for my to get my certification, because their is a chance it could happen again. Im only 21 years old, im fairly fit, I don't think I should miss out on this experience. Is there anyone out there who has had their lung collapse and still dives?

Thank you,

Kyle

I have had one twice (both lungs) Go see a pulmonary doctor.

yes I have had a collapsed lung several times when I was young, but I checked with a knowledgeable doctor and so should you. You never know :)

You can go shopping for a diagnosis or a doctor who will sign anything and eventually you'll find what you're looking for.

But unless you are willing to lie on the medical exam form you will be disqualifed anyway.

I know that it's hard, get a second opinion from a diving Doc, but once the second opinion tells you no diving, please be safe and don't dive.
