The Pompano Dropoff is the string of white round mooring balls that are South of the Pompano Pier. The same reef also extends South of Pompano.
We also encountered a whale shark just East of the Pompano Dropoff, in 50 feet of water, back in 1989. I was every bit as surprised as you are
A few years prior to that we encountered a huge manta ray on the Pompano Dropoff. It probably had a 10 foot wingspan and it was cruising up and down the reef. We saw it there about 3 days in a row. You never know what you are going to see... even when on the Pompano Dropoff.
Very cool video!
