Whale Shark Encounter-Pompano Dropoff!!

The Pompano Dropoff is the string of white round mooring balls that are South of the Pompano Pier. The same reef also extends South of Pompano.

We also encountered a whale shark just East of the Pompano Dropoff, in 50 feet of water, back in 1989. I was every bit as surprised as you are :D

A few years prior to that we encountered a huge manta ray on the Pompano Dropoff. It probably had a 10 foot wingspan and it was cruising up and down the reef. We saw it there about 3 days in a row. You never know what you are going to see... even when on the Pompano Dropoff.

I think the one that was hanging there in the summer died. I was told it ingested a plastic bag, but no one ever confirmed it.
